@futurebird the website is currently GitHub Pages, one of the things I need to get the hell out of, and a high priority. I can move it to anywhere I can static host, which in the past has been AWS S3 / CloudFront, so I’m exploring new go-to’s there. I also ultimately need to get all of my stuff off of GitHub onto something self-hosted, around 20 years of history. Like I said, I’m getting the hell out.
@futurebird Likewise, email for now is still mostly on services I need to get the hell out of, first moving things over to at least domains I own
ratfactor@futurebird @ryanfb If you're comfortable with Linux (or BSD), you can host a serious website on a tiny Virtual Private Server instance for about $5/month (I've been doing this for at least a decade). I'm sure there are even cheaper options as well. Put up some HTML, point your domain at the VPS's IP address and you're live!
As for email, there are ethical companies that provide that. I've been with @runbox for, I think, 8 years or so? You can bring your own domain.

And on a non-technical front, it's also about slowly building up a personal resistance against FOMO and the temptations of conveniences that come at a terrible cost.
