Dear #DoomsdayPreppers, is there anything online worth #archiving locally? Just curious! Sometimes I do feel that we should have local copy of some useful stuff. The internet is largely temporary with constantly changing narratives, and everything is slowly getting locked up.

@rohitfarmer I have a local copy of Wikipedia and StackOverflow, thanks to @kiwix!

I was also eyeing the entire collection of TEDx videos but I'll download it back at home ig, I have gotten multiple emails for using too much of my university WiFi bandwidth 😂

@arnav @kiwix I have looked into Kiwix multiple times and used a couple. But I don't know if the .zim format is good for long-term archival. Although I have tested the limits of my college networks myself back in the day. I will still suggest you be cautious.

@rohitfarmer @kiwix I had that concern as well but a quick web search said that the format is open and so are the Kiwix clients.

Keeping a local copy of Kiwix client source code and release files as well along with the archive for extra redundancy should be good enough, in my opinion.

There's also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_download but I find this too complicated when Kiwix already exists.
