#SolarPunkSunday musings...

So, in contemplating my own vision of a #SolarPunk community, there are some *jobs* that imho are crucial to running any type of close-knit community /society...

1. People trained in #FirstAid / #MedicalArts -- for both humans and non-humans
2. #Plumbers
3. #Carpenters
4. #Masons
5. #Blacksmiths / #Metalworkers
6. #Architects / #Planners
7. #Foresters / #Foragers
8. #Gardeners / #Farmers / #FoodProducers
9. #Menders / #Cobblers / #Clothiers / #Seamsters / #Tailors
10. #Chemists / #Alchemists
11. #Herbalists / #Compounders
12. #CitizenScientists / #Observers
13. #Potters / #Ceramics experts
14. #Computer / #Technology fixers (especially #electrical and #solar)
15. #Mothers / #Caregivers
16. #Teachers / #Librarians
17. #Cooks
18. #Cleaners
19. #Weavers / #Spinners / #FiberArtists

Other suggestions?

@DoomsdaysCW

#archivist/librarian, seperate from teachers, and teaching is a huge task to start with, recorders of knowledge are needed so none is lost.

possibly in metalworkers but seperate in the wider world #metalcaster believe me, you have someone who can sand cast and a lot of things get a lot easier down the line, also ability to cast in resin/plastic is useful.

#engineer
#mechanic

So, I know that some metals can be extracted / reused / worked with by a good blacksmith, but I'm wondering if we should be thinking beyond plastic? Also, can plastic be reused easily? I know a lot of plastic manufacturing involves heavy machinery and chemicals, though apparently, some plastic can be made at home (which I did not know about). It's something to ponder, for sure, @Thebratdragon ! The same goes for rubber, petroleum products, and other goods.

@DoomsdaysCW

reuse of those plastics that can be, would be the aim. HIPs plastic can be reused certainly, the stuff you use in 3d filament printers, fiddley but definitely doable.

rubber/silicone is iffy.

#glassmaker is also very very useful, as glass storage is often better than other containers, as well as reusable and easy to clean.

Good to know, @Thebratdragon . I did not know about all that! I think silicone can be reused, but I'm just learning about that.
So, on a related note, @Thebratdragon , I've been using two rectangular glass containers (one bigger, one smaller) to heat up frozen leftovers in the oven. I put the leftovers in the bigger container, then cover them with the smaller container, and put them both on a baking sheet. No aluminum foil needed! Removing the top container can be a bit tricky (where silicone oven mits come in handy). Creating an oven-proof glass cover with a handle on top would help with that. I wonder if anyone has come up with one of those yet.

@DoomsdaysCW

do it the other way around, big will lift clear easy, leaving small done.

Ooooh, @Thebratdragon ! I'm known for doing things backwards. Thanks!
