One of the skills I want to (re)learn this year is altering clothes, to start with altering hoodies into vests (without the hood) or crew neck sweaters. First project today was altering a hoodie into a zippered vest, I'm happy with the zipper, although it is a tad on the short side, I feel the collar could look better, but all in all it will be a good vest to wear around the house \o/

Next up is converting a hoodie into a crew neck sweater using the hood fabric for a collar 🤞🏻 #sewing #altering

@FlarZuumi
You may have already done this, but ribbing generally works best for crew-necks and is often sold in small quantities in the shops. This hoodie-to-jacket conversion is great! I'm trying to expand the pocket size to fit my phone on my zipped hoodies.
@EllenInEdmonton yeah I got the ribbing fabric and used it for the collar of this vest, I think I have just enough left to convert another hoodie into an actual crew neck sweater. The hoodie I want to convert using the hood fabric is mainly because that is such a unique color that I don't expect to find matching ribbing, and it will also be fun to experiment with other types of collars 😉
@FlarZuumi You might as well experiment if you have a bunch of hoodies that aren’t getting worn. I was able to buy a bunch of stretch fabric at a re-use sale for $2/metre, so I tried out a lot of patterns to see what worked for me. Knits are SO quick to sew, in comparison with wovens. They’re also quite forgiving.
