A way to do a thing becomes “the way” to do a thing because it is first or seems “popular”.
Humans are variable, various and adaptable. Making singular/brittle tools and experiences excludes anyone who cannot/does not want to use “a way” that becomes “the way”.
I have mixed feelings about standardized tests, about entrance exams etc. I do think there is value in having widely used benchmarks, even if they are imperfect. National tests maybe two (one for 8th graders and one for seniors before the graduate.) And maybe even an international test (maybe just in mathematics) Why? Because it spreads that awareness of what other people your age are learning. And this can make a young person aware of what is possible.
