I've been keeping an eye open for our hogs to emerge since last week. The first one appeared on camera last night. It looks like 'Spike' - he's huge! He has been visiting us for 7-8yrs, so he's quite old & every winter we worry he might not make it through. It's good to see him! He is always first to emerge & the others are usually out a few days later.

@SurrealSeal Ooh, you must be so happy and relieved that Spike showed up then 😄 We haven't lived here long enough to recognize all the individual hedgehogs (and they're pretty hard to distinguish from one another too 😅) but it's nice that they like our garden enough to hibernate here. We tried to keep it as habitable as possible for them. 😄

It is hard to distinguish them - except for Spike, who is so much bigger. He's quite a 'character', too. In the past, we have seen him (on our trailcam) chasing a local cat away from his bowl of water, and pulling a fox's tail for no apparent reason except that it made the fox jump!
