In the 1970s, with white Southern evangelicals outraged that the Democratic party had passed laws recognizing the rights of people of color, the US Catholic bishops made a fateful move: they allied themselves with those white evangelicals and created a Religious Right movement that became an arm of the Republican party.

What has energized this movement all along has been resistance to rights for people of color, women, and LGBTQ people. This alliance laid the foundation for someone like Trump to come along and claim that God is using him to save the nation — when anyone with any real sense of Christian faith knows how blasphemous and ludicrous that claim is.

What was unexpected: an American pope who would begin breaking that alliance and insisting that the US Catholic bishops, a majority of whom are comfortable with the alliance, start questioning whether it reflects real Christian, real Catholic, values. Ditto for the challenge to the 6 in 10 white Catholics who have voted three times for Trump.

We live in interesting times. The dissolution of the alliance between white US Catholics, their bishops appointed by Popes John Paul II and Benedict, and white evangelicals is going to make for some serious fireworks, when the Republican party for some years now has managed to convince white Catholics that voting GOP was their religious duty.

@wdlindsy I’m an American Catholic (Catholic educated) and have never once even considered voting for the orange Mussolini. JD is not a Catholic in my opinion. The alliance w/ evangelicals has always been antithetical towards Catholic teachings.

@heatherlynn8571 @amazing_ces Unfortunately, 6 in 10 white Catholics voted for Trump in three elections. Vance is Catholic, as is Karoline Leavitt. The administration is packed with Catholics, and via Leonard Leo (Catholic and an Opus Dei member) and the Heritage Foundation, the hard-right wing that controls the Supreme Court is almost totally Catholic.

Unfortunately, there's a long history of Counter-Reformation Jesuit in old-style Catholics.

Authoritarian & punitive to the core, and the heck with persuasion. They ignore questions like "Who put you in charge, to be judge & jury?"

That means burning "uppity" women at the stake when they fail to conform to "Kinder, Kuche, Kirche" coercive social practices.

As velhas receitas do FED não funcionam mais como o esperado, as taxas de lucro caem continuamente e a crise capitalista vai refletindo nos indivíduos, já que o trabalho é a forma mais profunda de ligação do indivíduo com a sociedade.
