This proposed energy storage system pumps saturated sea brine (denser than seawater) from a lower tank anchored on the seabed to a floating tank on the sea surface and then lets it flow down by gravity inside a tube through turbines, generating electricity when needed.

Storage, how the marine pumping of Italy's Sizable Energy works

The start-up has just closed an investment round of 8 million. New tests are ready in Reggio Calabria to develop commercial projects in 2026

#SizableEnergy is a clever name for the startup.

Let's hope that the energy generated by gravity working on a density gradient to turn turbines is "sizable" enough to offset the energy required to pump sizable amounts of brine from a tank on the seabed to a floating tank on the sea surface.

Wouldn't turbines turn more efficiently in deep ocean cross currents?

#ReflectOrbital, a #US company, is pitching giant mirrors in space to reflect sunlight at night.

Let's hope that the benefits from this one too are sizable and the costs insignificant.

Giant mirrors in space to reflect sunlight at night? No thank you, astronomers say | CBC News

A U.S. company is proposing to 'sell sunlight after dark,' saying it could help power solar farms and provide access to light in emergency situations. Astronomers are not only concerned about what this will do to the night sky, but also to wildlife.

@rameshgupta @GreenFire The costs are high, the environmental effects are potentially catastrophic, there are huge safety issues, and the benefits are negligible. It's a totally bad idea. Batteries for solar power storage are much "greener".
@sundogplanets @rameshgupta @GreenFire *nods* my hope is they're just in it to harvest venture capital.

That was #ReflectOrbital in October 2025. Now, yet another startup #Helio makes the case for #SpaceSolar or #SBSP

This one seeks to harvest #solar energy, convert it to microwaves, and transmit it wirelessly to Earth
