There's something eerie abt watching the 1968 film *2001: A Space Odyssey* on a scratchy VHS cassette recorded off PBS in the 1990s on a vintage VCR attached to a flat screen TV in 2026.
I saw the film with my dad in a movie theater. If it was 1968, I would have been 7 years old. (What was he thinking?) I clearly remember the fetus in space at the end.
This time I was struck by the opening scenes of ape despair and the long space-time sequence late in the film. (TBH, I ff'd thru the middle.)
