I'm not a Christian, but the more I learn about Christianity (I've been reading the Gospels; I'm on Luke now), the more I think that so many of our societal ills come from losing the broad cultural values from Jesus's teachings: humility, forgiveness, grace, love. There's a lot of wisdom there that was honed over two thousand years of contact with reality, and many of us seem to have thrown it away in favor of meanness, selfishness, and spite.
@nolan I'm not a Christian anymore, but I grew up immersed in the American evangelical subculture. One of my favorite musicians, going back to when I was a Christian in the 2000s (in my 20s), is Derek Webb. And one of my favorite songs of his, from back when he was still writing overtly "Christian" music, is "I Don't Want to Fight": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqxu4B6dlFg Especially the last verse, "so I'm walkin' away from this, before I hurt someone", seems especially relevant on social media.
