This technical name for this symbol is the #octothorpe. It was designed in the #1960s by engineers at Bell Labs to add a 12th button to the #PushButtonPhone specifically for #aesthetic reasons.

@Jess.Stetson Octothorpe was my mom’s (b. 1924) name on Skype. She was an old school geek. ❀️❀️
@Jess.Stetson Correction: her ICQ nameβ€”had to look it up.

Back in 2009, I set my parents up with a dedicated Skype phone when they moved out of state, but my (sometimes infuriating) dad had been listening to too many conspiracy theorists and insisted on turning it off all the time. I had to call them on the regular phone and tell them to turn on the Skype phone so we could video chat. When they did, it would never connect to WiFi, and they’d forget the password. πŸ™„

BTW, dad was an engineer and programmer, and mom had a chemistry degree and taught junior high science. Watcha gonna do? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Haha Yeah, my mom used to do the same thing with her mobile phone.
@Jess.Stetson Old farts. I’m 64 and rapidly becoming my father, but that is one thing I swear I’ll never do. Hope it doesn’t taste too bad when I have to eat my words.
@Jess.Stetson Never been to Walesβ€”looks lovely. My wife and I traveled to Ireland this summerβ€”photos are in my portfolio (see links in my bio). I’m also a native New Yorker, if you mean the state. Lifelong Rochester resident.
If you've seen Ireland, you've pretty much seen Wales. Very similar landscapes anyway. But next time try Wales, too. Just a ferry away! I mean the city but it's in the state so it's all good.
Haha I think you're doing fine. I worry, too... I'm not far behind you!
