An app called NonUSA is surging in popularity in Denmark; it “helps you identify and avoid American products in everyday life”. (Ironically, iOS-only for now…) https://www.the-independent.com/tech/us-boycott-app-nonusa-denmark-greenland-b2905574.html
App for boycotting US products tops Danish charts after Trump’s Greenland threats

NonUSA app ‘helps you identify and avoid American products in everyday life’

@kottke I mean there is the ironically named "Made In USA" for android ... lol (link goes to playstore)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.richdenton.made

EDIT: it might not have the desired functionality but I leave it despite my doubts, because its funny. There is a barcode scanner "Made in from ?" which probably actually does provide the desired feature.

Have pride in your purchase.

Want to buy Canadian? There's an app for that | CBC News

Wouldn't it be great if your phone could just magically tell you whether the products you want to buy are Canadian or not? Well, now it can — thanks to savvy entrepreneurs across the country who've created apps to meant to help shoppers identify the origin of everyday staples.

@kottke we also have a store chain, marking all non American products with a star.

@kottke When I moved to Germany in 2010, I saw how germans still had this idea of the US as the nation that liberated them from naziism.

As a Canadian, I knew that that US was looooong gone.

Really obvious they know that too, now.

@kottke

We have a similar app down here (Australia) called *Bring Back Australia* that, when you scan the UPC, tells you where the product comes from and what company gets the income from it. It also clearly differentiates between Australian *owned* and Australian *made*, the latter frequently indicating that the ingredients come from overseas.

A bit parochial, but it comes in handy when we're particularly annoyed at a country 😁.

@kottke Ironically indeed! An app that helps you avoid American products in your everyday life … that runs on an American phone with American software.
@kottke @Viss I use one called Buy Beaver 🦫, there’s also Check The Label but that one depends on slop generators. 🇨🇦
