Cam Newton: 'Women's value gets lower the more children that they have'

The NFL season might be over, but that won’t absolve Cam Newton from dropping outlandish takes. And he just dropped a particularly bad one.

Awful Announcing

>> STFU. Another attack on Black women.

There're plenty of white women that have many children. Also in many other non-American cultures. How is this an attack on #black women?

The author #BrandonContes deliberately made it sensational by rewriting it as "having children lowers a woman’s value". That's NOT what Newton said.

No doubt racism is rampant, but how does diluting it help the cause of black people?

@rameshgupta When I read this article, I felt that it WAS disrespectful towards Black women. And it is. As a Black woman,I felt insulted. Sorry if you disagree.

@IveyJanette

It is disrespectful, no doubt.

I blame the reporter for distorting Newton's quote to #clickbait it. I don't know #CamNewton, but some of what he said rings true.

Specifically, "the guy that you’re dating or will date, if he ain’t willing to love on these five children that you have, that ain’t the guy for you. Because when I came into your life, I was willing to accept you and whatever you have."

He's not stopping her from finding/dating another man or having more children.

@rameshgupta My mom left my dad right before I was born because he flat out refused to be a father and husband. Same thing five years later when she left my brother's dad for the same reason.

As for Cam Newton? Misogynoir,as they say. Will his baby mama finally up and leave?

@IveyJanette

Had I known about your personal experience earlier and then put your original response in that context, I would have responded differently, or not at all. Sorry

@IveyJanette

The reason I felt compelled to comment earlier is because twice in 2 days I saw 2 posts on #BlackMastodon alleging #racism:

1. Women's value gets lower the more children they have.

2. A #rapist was prosecuted. Isn't it good that he was brought to justice?

The person in the post about #BillCosby suggested #Cosby was prosecuted because he was black, not because he raped women.

She used some big words like #intersectionalAnalysis, but nothing of substance

@rameshgupta That "Black man unjustly jailed" comment has been prevalent for a long time on social media. Especially celebrities: Cosby,Diddy,R. Kelly,et al. They have their supporters for sure. But they still violated Black women.

@IveyJanette

This is not limited to black people.

We have seen this with the perpetrators of 9/11.

When #US went after them, a whole class of people had the grievance that we went after muslims.

They are overlapping classes, but #terrorism is not tied to or limited to a specific religion or culture, as we know from the #Oklahoma bombing by #TimothyMcVeigh.
