In case anyone wonders why communities do not trust #CoryDoctorow here he is defending his use of #fashtech by pointing out other bad people in the history of tech. It's likely how he justifies pushing the privacy and security nightmare #kagi as well.

LLMs were trained on extreme racism and reflect that. You cannot make a good case for using them unless you have created a new model and done the work. Adopting what's out there spreads white supremacy.

@reflex I found myself back on Kagi because nothing else was usable and with the cost of SSDs I can't afford to upgrade my homelab to host a search index.
@KitsuneVixi I've been using https://noai.duckduckgo.com with reasonable results. Like Kagi it's just a search aggregator, now with an easy no AI option.
DuckDuckGo - Protection. Privacy. Peace of mind.

The Internet privacy company that empowers you to seamlessly take control of your personal information online, without any tradeoffs.

DuckDuckGo
@reflex Duckduckgo uses bing results, which has been blocking neocities sites.

@KitsuneVixi That was already fixed and so far as I am aware didn't impact DDG. They use more than Bing as well, as you can read here: https://duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/results/sources

I'm not advocating for DDG, I'm just saying that there are options that are safer than Kagi and reasonably reliable.

Where do DuckDuckGo search results come from? - DuckDuckGo Help Pages

DuckDuckGo is an independent internet privacy company that offers a private alternative to Google search & Chrome in one free app.

@reflex It affected duckduckgo and Ecosia in my testing, and if I understand correctly it was only partially resolved.
