NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

(As the prophecy foretold.)

💔 × ∞

On the plus side, I just unearthed an old HDHR Connect, andI can get CBS/ABC/NBC/Fox via an over-the-air antenna, so then the question becomes what to do about cable channels?

For me, I *think* that’s basically ESPN (so, I guess I can get the baller Disney+ package) and Bravo (stop judging us), which means Peacock?

So, not dire, but not what I want. ☹️

@caseyliss I have an HDHomeRun and Sling TV on Channels DVR 🫡

@FossilzedCarlos 👀

Sling is via TVE?

@caseyliss yep, I don’t think I see all the channels, but just checked… ESPN is missing 😅
It used to be there, will check to see what happened 😅
@caseyliss according to their site, I should be able to see it… 🤔 I still see FS1/FS2, so not sure what happened. We have Orange package.
@caseyliss apparently these things happen from time to time, but in the process of looking… I saw FIOS on the TVE menu.
@FossilzedCarlos yeah, that’s the path of least resistance, but NBC isn’t in TVE and I fear more will follow
@caseyliss
“CBS/ABC/NBC/Fox”
Networks I’ve actively avoided for years.

@caseyliss YouTube TV + TV everywhere through channels has been pretty rock solid for me for the last 2 years, combined with over the air for local channels. (That said, I think during non-football season I don’t really need to pay google for cable tv at all…)

With the free trials of YTTV or Fubo or whatever, it really wouldn’t hurt to test the waters of TV everywhere + channels.

@platt yeah, I could go TVE, but I know NBC has already fallen off of it, and I fear more will follow.
@caseyliss also, pro tip, if you need peacock and are already an apple one subscriber, sign up for peacock through the iOS app on the monthly level and it will give you the pro-rated bundle rate that’s cheaper than the annual rate. $11/month I believe.
@caseyliss This is truly not a troll even though it sorta sounds like one: What do you prefer about linear tv + DVR instead of having everything on demand via streaming (assuming you get no-ads subscriptions.) I get live sports but I’m curious about why something like Peacock is worse than Bravo via DVR.

@Timschmitz a few things:

1) cheaper
2) I control it
3) I can capture things for long-term storage if I so desire

There’s surely others I’m not thinking about

@caseyliss It's funny, in my head I still have the "streaming is cheaper" mindset from back when I first got rid of cable. Somehow it didn't occur to me until you just said it that I'm sure that hasn't been true in a while 🤯

@caseyliss how much of the work that you do for this stuff is to maintain your sports viewing vs other forms of entertainment?

Aside from the technical itch to solve the issues that is.

@Justwes it is no work, until Verizon changes things.
@caseyliss maybe you can go to a farmer’s market this weekend and see if there are any offers that are too good to be true. 😆
@caseyliss right now is a great time to have Peacock. we’ve been enjoying the ❄️ Olympics
@caseyliss We also watch a lot of Bravo shows
@jjlsetter ✊🏻
@caseyliss Summer House season 10 is going to be a train wreck we won't be able to stop watching LOL
@jjlsetter We never did that one!

@caseyliss if you still have your cable subscription you should be able to stream Bravo with that on Apple TV or their website 😷😷yt-dlp😷😷.

Also out of curiosity if they’re serving you cable via IP does that have a way to have your capture card still work?

@bbech I think I can still capture stuff but it would require some heroics I’m not really interested in going through.

@caseyliss I'll say this, and I KNOW it's not everyone's first choice, but I've gone back & forth since leaving cable years ago. Various subscription services. OTA. Some dodgy interwebs means. Sling. Hulu+LiveTV. FuboTV.

Every time I end up coming back to YouTubeTV. It gives me all the channels I could want, unlimited DVR, a *very* responsive skip ahead/back (on an AppleTV). No faffing. No worries.*

Perhaps a tad more expensive than a DIY-mix-and-match approach, but simple & easy as f*ck.

Life's too busy to battle with TV options.

(*yes, I still have some other subs, too.)

@caseyliss and I was just wondering what to do with the HDHR I got my hands on...
@caseyliss Bite the bullet and do YouTube TV. It’s overpriced but painless.
@caseyliss Bravo is Peacock which is 10.99 for Premium with ads and 16.99 without ads. What cable channels do you require?
I moved on from cable card back in 2021 when I moved into a place that had Xfinity only and they played the funny games with some stations being DRM protected, but I went to YTTV. I think I am finally at the point where I am ready to drop it, all I really care about is sports. I have just been lazy about getting an antenna for locals.

@glennbrown I need to do a full inventory, but I think

ESPN
ACC network
Bravo

Are the big ones

@caseyliss yea when i did the switch to YTTV, I did the full nerd and made a Google sheet breakdown of what I wanted and what a few streaming linear options had. YTTV then hit most of the check marks. Now i watch even less stuff on it.
@caseyliss I will only judge you if you tell me you don’t watch RHOSLC :)
@cdonnellytx I don’t. Beverly Hills & OC. Though I saw and very much heard John Oliver’s impassioned endorsement haha
@caseyliss On the bright side, they rolled out a 2GB plan in Nova...
@melonamin jealous! How expensive?? 🙈
@caseyliss Price list is $110; I'm paying $80.
@melonamin not awful!
@caseyliss oh, and they overdeliver as usual. What sucks is that there is NO alternatives in the region, and literally impossible to get anything over 2GB.
@melonamin wtf I never crack like 950mbit lol
@caseyliss This is not the way to live 🙀 🙀 🙀
@melonamin Best that’s available 🤷🏻‍♂️
@caseyliss @melonamin I am sure they over provision the 1GB plan but the issue is our ONT's are 1Gb port so it limits it. 2GB plan your get a 10G capable ONT. There had been rumblings of them turning it up in Buffalo too but yet to see it 🥺. My Cloud Gateway Max needs faster tubes.
@caseyliss This is what prevents me from getting my Comcast TV in the Channels app.. It worked! ...until it didn't anymore.
I'm most likely just going to cut back to an Internet only plan.

@caseyliss Listen, I know this guy who has a buddy who has a cousin who let me in on something.

You ever hear of…SuperBox?

@caseyliss So did you find a reasonable alternative yet?
@caseyliss That email sounds exciting!
@caseyliss ✨ Exciting! ✨
@rconti not the word I would use
@caseyliss I got the same exact email and had the same exact reaction 😆
@caseyliss cut the cord dude. It’s time.
@caseyliss the worst part of this is they have you CALL them?? Using a TELEPHONE??
@caseyliss I got this email too. My plan is to wait until they actually turn it off.
