@rbreich To vote where I live you get assigned a number for a district. You show that number and a valid ID at the booth before they cross you off the list and hand you a ballot.
If you can't make it there in person, you can vote by mail, but you have to request a mail-in ballot beforehand.

How is this arrangement controversial?
Because only eligible people get assigned a number?

They don't even tell you what they really want to do. They trick people into voting for them with simplistic statements, wish fulfillment, and straight up lies. Have done since Reagan.
