@jeffowski ah the economic "theory" always grounded in reality. Just like religion, all made up bull shit suite the rich & powerful.

@htpcnz -- What's fucking crazy is that the price is as high as it is SPECIFICALLY because all of these imaginary things are being treated as actual things.

That's the real reason the #AIboom is really an #AIbust

#GenerativeAI #AIslop

@jeffowski @htpcnz

Money itself is imaginary. At most, it is a metaphor for other money. It only exists as much as it is believed in. The map is not the territory. We're being played.

@jeffowski If those plans fail, won't that lead to a crash in the price of memory? No way to know if or when that might happen. But, with so may links in the chain, if one link fails, that might lead to a crash.
@hoco — but in the meantime, they are making 4x profit. There is no downside for them, even if the market crashes. They made their money already so fuck the rest of us.
@jeffowski I really hope that the prices will crash when the AI bubble pops...

@jeffowski

In today's news;

The #antiai #antiaislop folks discover infrastructure pipeline...

... These are the same folk who, when put into management roles by some misfortune, kill your bandwidth and impose limits because clients are "using too much stuff" 😈

@jeffowski
It's called logistics, sweetie. Look it up! /s

@mikefordays --

Logistics is about moving real products, not imaginary ones.

Look it up!

@jeffowski The real reason this is happening now is not technical. This is an oligopoly barring prospect competitors from the market. Big prospective consumers to. With rising prices of token many CFOs would wonder about costs of buying hardware and keeping a tuned LLM in-house.
@jeffowski A very minor addition/correction, it's not that 'RAM' has been pre-emptively purchased, because the RAM being affected is DDR whereas the RAM being pre-emptively purchased is GDDR. Basically the production capacity is being pre-purchased to make GDDR instead of DDR RAM for GPUs that haven't been made yet.
