Man, the Wikipedia page for IRS Direct File is kinda depressing.

"Trump's and the Republican Party's first budget bill mandated its destruction."
"The IRS staff published the software open-source on GitHub as it was being shut down, in the hopes that others could make use of it.
"Trump's head of the IRS said 'I don't care about Direct File. I only care about direct audit.'"
For one brief, glorious tax season, Americans experienced a fraction of what civilized countries' citizens do for taxes. Then the Republican Party went "oh god, we can't let GOOD things happen! Kill it! Kill it!!"
