I ended up mostly enjoying the first season of #Hijack and was doubtful when I learned a second season was coming.
Four episodes in and I already guessed two of the major redirections, almost immediately. One precisely, the other the first part but not the redirect it included.
I also can't shake the "why doesn't he do/say X" of it all, and the initial setup with my understanding of how subways are run.
I want actors and crews to have steady work, and also want good stories, told well.
Red Eye did a much better job than Hijack in extending a thin premise into a second season, particularly by flipping the situation of the main character.
It had lots of flaws, but the overall story made sense, even with the ridiculously bad security scenario that allowed much of the action to occur.
I wish creators would at least outline several seasons before work on the first begins so when a show gets renewed, they already know what makes sense as a continuation.
I rolled my eyes at Drops of God season 2 until I learned it's based on a manga.
That alone gives me hope that this second season won't veer off into ludicrous situations because the writers don't have to make it up as they go along.
Now, if the source is a mess, then the second season may also end up a mess, but it hopefully has a good foundation to build on.
Line of Duty is a good example of a series that doesn't feel as if it should work well across multiple seasons, yet manages to build upon and expand what it gave us in season one over several seasons that all work pretty well, individually and collectively.
I don't have any such hopes for The Copenhagen Test which has a premise that requires a massive suspension of disbelief from the start, and sets up a second season with a "twist" that requires an even higher level.
Sometimes a series just needs to be one, and done.
This show relies on so many twists and turns, Cirque du Soleil could sue for infringement, or worker's compensation.
Persons Of No Interest (PONIES) is a show that could run for 20 years, no problem, given the time period it covers.
It can be like Line of Duty with some characters remaining somewhat constant as new characters and scenarios are introduced, eventually becoming like an anthology.
And the soundtrack is Phe No Me Nal!
