#GoI is considering a *20 year #gag_order* on retired defense personal against publishing memoirs and other books. It will be known by the rather innocuous sounding name of "cooling-off period". This comes close on the heels of the political storm kicked off by the memoirs of Army General (retd) M M Naravane.

What national interest does this serve? The govt is declaring that they'd rather suppress dissidence, than face accountability for their closet skeletons. Need I remind who fears books and free speech?

This draconian move is exceptionally damaging in that it adds to all the little bits of erosion of democracy, while largely escaping the public's attention. Right now, the 'J' in the ruling party's name stands for 'people' as much as the 'D' in DPRK stands for 'democracy'.
