Ok, a couple of things, none of them important, or relevant to the troubles at large.

I’m not a sportsball person, except rugby, don’t get between me and a scrum, but as a rule, sports happen outside my realm of attention. But these lunatics on snow and ice? Pure madness, and impossible not to watch. Example, currently quite fit young persons in lycra suits are hurtling headfirst down an icy tunnel on a sled? They’re going dizzingly fast, and again this seems like something they should have cleared with Health and Safety. Frankly, as someone from the South who rarely sees snow, this whole #Olympics thing seems dangerous.

Beloved tells me that people play in the snow and ice all the time, and these sports are perfectly normal activities. I don’t understand it. There’s no crocodiles to avoid, no sharks, no drunk tourists...ok, probably drunk tourists.

Speaking of drunk, the #Daytona500 is today too. Meh. Restrictor plate racing sucks and #nascar is owned by #pedophile supporters.

I have not watched broadcast television in a very long time. Holy crap, what is this advertising insanity? Good Bob, the ads are filled with machine generated people and products. It’s uncanny valley out here in broadcast land.

@MissConstrue I also don't watch broadcast TV, so when I'm trapped someplace with the TV on, I'm amazed. And not in a good way.

@MissConstrue @Archergal I spent a lot of time at my dad's house a few years ago and he used to watch the equivalent of broadcast TV. I think he had cable. I could not believe the commercials. I understand companies wanting to be paid for what they broadcast, but hell! There has to be a better way.

I'm liking my streaming options. I pay for just two channels and that's all I watch: Apple TV and YouTube Premium. No ads.

I pay extra on any streaming service for no ads. I don't know how people stand it. Same with folks who have no ad blockers on their computers.

@Archergal @MissConstrue Same here. It's funny but a friend kept pushing me to try YouTube premium and I kept saying that I wasn't interested in paying for YouTube. And then I got a free six month trial subscription and after just a week I was completely sold.

And here's a tip: if you subscribe to Verizon for your telephone service, you may be able to get a YouTube premium account for just $10 per month. That's how I get it.

Now if only YouTube would stop pushing AI generated slop. 🙄

@mlanger @MissConstrue I use Firefox and UBlockOrigin, and I don't see ads on YouTube, at least for now. So far UBlockOrigin has stayed ahead of YouTube's attempts to block them. That may change, and then I'll probably stop watching YouTube.

@Archergal @MissConstrue I watch YouTube on my TV and iPad and can't be bothered to fiddle around with special software just to save $10 a month. A portion of that money does go to the folks with monetized channels I watch. I've got no problem with that. I wish they got a bigger share.

In December I had a movie night at a friend's house and neglected to bring my streaming setup along. We watched a James Bond film with a ~1hr20m runtime. Took 3 hours. Lord, have mercy on the consumer.

I've been having nightmare fantasies of running for local office on a "Make Billboards Illegal" platform. That's it, no other policies.
