This second wave was a modernization of Neuromancer's ideas, written by 90’s computer nerds. It also included more poetic works like the delirious, techno-infused trip that is Jeff Noon’s Vurt.
In Vurt, web surfers enter a psychonautical cyberspace by doing a drug called Vurt, a feather that they put in their mouth and inhale from. Each feather is an engineered cocktail that creates a new experience, but also connects you to a psychic internet
The main characters skulk through a depraved future underworld of clubs, derelict urban spaces and cyberpsychedelia.
I tried to evoke these things and even stole a detail or two in Dead Internet Theory, my currently crowdfunding adventure module.
