Migrated my service architecture to a fully decoupled, headless SPA today. Replaced a legacy CMS with a Master Manifest (JSON) and a serverless intake via AWS Lambda. Sovereignty over data isn't just for clients; it’s for the practitioner too.

@gary_alderson eh. Like buying a house but having to pay property taxes even though you own it? Can I call that #somewhat homeownership? If so, is buying land and having to pay taxes also under the same umbrella?

@drmorrisj the lines are blurred - total self hosting is static ip plus fiber, that's really all you need

@gary_alderson ...and the associated CDN? What about the maintenance costs for the associated hardware or other costs associated with the cost of ownership?

The thing about self hosting on cloud platforms is that, with the proper configuration, you minimize the cost of ownership by placing the responsibility of maintenance and the distribution network (including protections, like DDOS) on them. Such a config is analogous to living on an undiscovered island versus buying land in a known country

@drmorrisj bead is hitting full steam next year. I would say it will be easier than natl highway act compare and contrast - that is a good question for everybody #back in my day we built roads
