48 years.

That's how old I was when I realised that the "Why did the Chicken cross the road" joke, does not mean what I thought it meant.

You see, I always assumed that the joke was funny simply because it was not at all funny. Like it's funny for absurdities sake. I mean what is so special about a chicken walking across a road to the opposite side.

No. Apparently it's a play on the words "The Other Side" and it has a way darker meaning than I thought it did. Poor Chicken.

I take things way too literally.

@leeleedee

I've seen this interpretation going around the internet too recently.

And IMHO you were correct, and the current story is a backwards interpretation conceived because mental diversity is a major topic these days.

So, somebody invented this interpretation on (capitalistic) social media to boost their own profile and monetize on the interactions based on that interpretation.

@folfdk Oh, Ok. I was looking at a blog post from 2017 and saw the interpretation mentioned, and suddenly felt very out of touch.

Is it the same with the "This little piggy went to market" rhyme then?

'Cause I always thought the pigs were going shopping, and apparently....they ... are ... not.

@leeleedee

Ah! That's a long time ago. (On some scale at least).

Now I'm concerned that I'm incorrect and incompetent 😂😅

@leeleedee Oh. Okay. Well, thanks for explaining that, I never got that either. I too thought that the point was "well of course it was to get to the other side, that's why people cross the road, ya moron" #JustAutismThings
