🔒 "WhatsApp is encrypted" - Technically true, Practically misleading
While E2E encryption protects MESSAGE CONTENT using Signal Protocol, Meta still collects extensive metadata:
- Contact graphs (who you message, frequency)
- Temporal patterns (timestamps, online status)
- Device fingerprints (IP, hardware ID)
- Location data (even with permissions off)
- Group membership maps
Since 2016: ALL metadata shared with Facebook/Instagram for ad targeting.
