As the disquiet over tweaks to the student loan system (by which most students in the UK finance their fee payments at university), and specifically the rising schedule of repayments grows, the Q. is whether Rachel Reeves is delivering a similar meltdown in young people's support for Labour that Nick Clegg's decision on student fees delivered for the LibDems?

The Gorton & Denton by-election may well be an indicator of the damage done to Labour's prospects among the und-25s!

@ChrisMayLA6 The whole student loan system is a disaster under every criterion but one: shackling students into a debt trap.

Student debt and financialisation of housing have utterly transformed the economic landscape for the new generations of adults. These are not economic policies; they are ideological choices.

Yup, I completely agree.... I'm not against a contribution (as clearly individuals do capture some of the benefit from university education) but that should be dwarfed by public funding (as society is the major beneficiary of wide university education). The current system is a disgrace driven by the notion that society gains no benefits from higher education....

@ChrisMayLA6 The notion that education is primarily a personal financial benefit is one of the many dismal legacies of Blair/Brown and the #ConDems. It's a revolting worldview.
