Happy Birthday Trayvon Martin—he would have been 31 today. 🙏🏿
@popcornreel #Alt4You A picture of Trayvon Martin. He looks decidedly boyish, is smiling, has close-cropped hair, and a burgundy t-shirt that says "Hollister" in white script.

#TrayvonMartin's story broke my heart and my spirit, and finally broke my already-thin line of trust in our legal system. And it opened my eyes to the shocking number of racists in my life. His murder changed me and, honestly, I've never recovered from it.

None of us can recover from it, until it stops happening.

@popcornreel I remember someone pointing out that the claims that he attacked the man who murdered him fundamentally contradicted the fact that the autopsy found he was shot in the back. I hate that it took him dying for me to start waking up to what black Americans face. It's probably painfully obvious he did not deserve to die to many, maybe all of the people who will see this, but I hope I can at least provide some consolation in reminding other white people that he did not deserve this.
@popcornreel Trayvon Martin was murdered by a coward with a gun. The 911 call the murderer made should have been enough for a conviction. He was instructed to stop following Trayvon, he instead used his white privilege to accost and pick a fight with Trayvon, and when Trayvon was beating the coward’s ass, he was killed. As if this crime and not guilty verdict wasn’t enough, they went after Trayvon’s mom for her activism.
