An extra bonus for Vivaldi users on iOS: today's new Vivaldi 7.8 lets you install alternate app stores, such as @altstore where you don't have to pay tribute to Apple. (Note, only in EU; other jurisdictions don't have Digital Markets Act, so Apple won't let you have nice things.)
@brucelawson @altstore let’s go!! 🥳
@rileytestut Let's go to FREEDOM LAND, where you are allowed to run the software you want to use on a device that you paid hundreds of Euros for! Practically Anarchy. @altstore
@brucelawson excuse my ignorance, but was that not possible before? Only through Safari? Thanks!
@faultswithin it was, and then Apple allowed other browsers to do the same. But only in E.U. (For now.)
@brucelawson @altstore does this work for us unfortunate foreigners while we're visiting an EU country? Or does it require an EU-bought iPhone?
@KaiEkkrin I'll punt that question to our chums at @altstore, because I don't know (Apple is vague) and I can't test it
@brucelawson @KaiEkkrin @altstore it doesn’t require an EU-bought phone, but it DOES require an EU Apple ID which is probably more trouble than it’s worth 🙃
@brucelawson @altstore Waiting for AltStore to hit the UK, they did say they're expanding into the UK this year.
@brucelawson @altstore
Unfortunately, as a developer of free apps, you still have to pay 99 euros per year for a developer account, even when distributing via AltStore. That's maddening.
@marc_eu Oh, I agree. But think of poor Apple and their impoverished shareholders. @altstore
