#funaday2026 Day 4: neck deep through a rewatch of Veronia Mars, and I knew she had to be next to get the OP treatment.

She was surprisingly hard to find art for. Despite being a cult favorite in a similar milieu as Buffy, most fan made visuals seem to be constrained to screen caps and gifs.

Shout out to Pinterest user "mothballarchive," whose collage served as the basis for this card.

Making a max 6 character is always a bit of a challenge, as you'll have to justify why you'd run one over a more powerful max 7 or 8. With a measly 15 TDB total, the diminutive Mars can slot into a lot of front lines, and I'm hoping to build her specials to ping off her Inherent Ability, leaning into the teen detective's uncanny knack for cracking the case.

I think she'll fit nicely into the more noir themed set we're working on, "Cops, Crooks, Dogs, and the Man From Hell," which will feature characters from Twin Peaks, Columbo, and more!

#funaday2026 Day 5: Chainsaw Man. (Reposted to unbreak the chain).

Kinda went crazy on this one, pulled colors from the first volume's cover and just went wild. It's chaotic, but so is the series.

I wish some of the mechanics laid out by the new "official" shepherds of OP would be more widely accepted by the Underground community, because I struggled with Denji's grid a bit. I think his Energy and Strength stats are a little higher than they should be, but for what I plan on giving him in his kit, he shouldn't be too easy to slot in.

As referenced, LRG did a good thing by replacing the old TDB method (add all characters' grids together and go no higher than 76) with the Threat Level totals (even if there's no damn reason to have stuck with 76!) While often but not always equaling the grid total, the Threat Level now more appropriately takes into consideration the character's specials and inherent ability. I think many customs players would flip if I considered using some of their infrastructure, but I'm nothing if not an ICONOCLAST, so we'll see what bits and bops I start pulling together moving forward.

Anyways, the vision: I want Chainsaw Man to be violent and KO-avoidant. This Character is Step One.

#Funaday2026 Day 6: This is the creamed corn.

I knew I wanted to create Garmonbozia way back LAST #funaday, when I dropped the Log Lady's Log on my own unsuspecting ass. A nice hot shower revealed the entire concept to me.

A quick and easy one with lots of utility since it can target anyone on the field. Awesome art by Pierrot Perfumery (I'll have to get some of their product for my partner in the future).

#funaday Day 7: Revisited a creation from last year's go-round.

A slight tweak on the HF meta code (and a flip on our Lernie card from a few years ago, which allowed the follow up off of your own avoid Special), I think this suits the master detective's iconic catchphrase pretty well, never letting the crook rest until they finally, inevitability confess their guilt.

I'm having fun slowly but surely putting together these entirely human characters and envisioning how the could possibly compete with the likes of Gods and Metahumans. Characters like Columbo and Veronica Mars already verge on the supernatural, their intuition and talents ALWAYS leading to a clean resolution, but it's still a fun challenge conceiving of new ways to interpret the Intellect stat and how it can lead your team to victory.

#funaday2026 Day 8: forgot to post.

This was supposed to be an easy one, just drop the image in and bounce. I dunno how I even found this insane Bruce Timm crossover art (which I've learned was the cover for WonderCn '99), but it's perfect for an Any Teamwork.

I hadn't looked at my updated Teamwork layouts since I got the set they first appeared in (The Essentials Collection vol. 1, aka the NPE aka New Players' Essentials), and, while I still stand by the changes, there's some aesthetic changes I'd love to make. I started updating the font I used, but I'd love to do away with any drop shadows entirely. I find them to be very unappealing.

Not a huge fan of the font I used on the top portion either, I think it's some generic adobe font and not super exciting.

Tl;dr: this is cool art and I'd like to see how this would look as a full art some time.

#funaday2026 Day 9: I've been making stuff behind the scenes, but got a little behind on posting about them. Should be back on a track now hopefully.

This is a kind of rare example of me coming up with an effect first, and finding an appropriate home for it after. The scene: me standing bare assed in the shower for inspiration, and, boy, did it come.

OverPower is not a game that wants you to turtle up. You have a card in hand that attack? It must attack! No saving Power Cards for a later defense. You can't even pass with one in hand, if you don't wanna attack anymore, maybe you can't win the venture anyway and it wouldn't be worth a character taking damage (or worse, getting KOd) to continue, you're conceding, bucko.

Enter: the IA. A powerful ability that allows you to pass initiative mid battle (shout out Altered's "After You" mechanic) and keep attacking.

I didn't know where it would land, but after the aforementioned nudy meditation, Aki Hayakawa, what with his Future Devil contract, seemed an appropriate candidate. You may think seeing a mere 2 seconds into the future wouldn't be much help, but Aki didn't become one of the most lethal weapons in Tokyo Special Division 4's Public Safety Devil Hunter aresenal without it.

I made his grid nice and high, as such a powerful ability should come with a cost, but I again feel as though the classic TDB calculation method, considered sacrosanct amongst the custom creators (possibly out of spite towards the alternative as opposed to deference to tradition) flounders in comparison to LRGs sleeker Threat Level model. Time will tell whether the RDU eventually adopts the latter in some capacity.

#funaday2026 Day 10: this one took less time to cook up than the frigging teamwork, and I even freestyled it with Sweet Jeen K by my side as hype man.

Not sure if the TDB value is necessary, and if it is, maybe the cost is too extreme, (only testing will tell!), but I feel like this is an extremely powerful effect. Hitting both sides of the field is pretty rare, aspects are harder to defend, and if you're packing it, you packed accordingly.

Definitely would favor an offense heavy build that intends to win through KOs over Mission advancement. I'd love to see this one in action.

Killer art by Dora Ingrid, give them a follow wherever ya can (and I gotta say, I killed the layout, someone hire me (or otherwise give me money to make games)).

Playing catch up.

This one has been lingering in the recesses of mind for a minute, I think I told @thecisco about this almost a year ago now. Recursion doesn't pop up too much in this game, so I cooked up a keyword for it (I just love doing that!)

Jo Mullein is a new type of Lantern, with a ring that doesn't require a power battery to recharge, but it's output isn't quite as strong as the standard ring. I felt this was a perfect fit for an Artifact that keeps her locked and loaded with mid-range Power Cards!

NK Jemisin and Jamal Campbell really killed it on her origin series, Far Sector, crafting a perfect space-bound, murder mystery, set in a repressed society on the brink of revolution. Highly recommended!

Here's the woman in question, times twice.

I gave one version the "digi-zine" treatment I've been givin' the Chainsaw Man character, and another got a more noir influenced variant, since Jo's one of the characters I've earmarked for the "Cops, Crooks, A Dog, and the Man From Hell" set alongside Columbo, Dale Cooper, and Veronica Mars. I just couldn't resist after finding this stellar art from Its Albir.

The ring Jo was gifted by the Guardians is experimental, allowing a user to explore and serve in the deepest reaches of space (to wit, the Far Sector), without requiring a Power Battery to recharge. As a result, it's use requires downtime to recharge.

Jo makes great use of it, but even without, Jo is smart, intuitive, and resourceful. It might seem like a bummer for her Energy actions to take a hit, but I think you'll all dig the kit I'm brewing for her and see why she's one of my favorite Lanterns.

A little more from Jo Mullein's kit, Deep Space Detective helps iron out the INTEL keyword I've been ruminating on for a minute. With the addition of either OPP or SELF, the keyword has a little more functionality, allowing you to "scry" one or the other player's Draw Pile to help set you up for victory.

#funaday2026 Day 16 - Jo's a pretty complex character, which is more or less the noir-soaked milieu "Cops, Crooks, a Dog, and the Man From Hell" hopes to play in, and this card pulls from that complexity. A former solider and beat cop, she's repeatedly found herself in hot water for prioritizing justice over the wretched and corrupt herd mentality being a guy or gal in blue requires.

A rogue Guardian recognized this quality within her, to protect the innocent at all costs, she was gifted the experimental ring, and this same quality is what inspired the card "Because Someone Has To."

#funaday2026 Day 17 - Jo's a lot of things: a former cop (resigned in disgrace for doing the right thing, so we'll cut her some slack), a Green Lantern, a futzin' weeb, and one gets the feeling from all her dalliances she's maybe read the Ethical Slut a couple times, but above all else, she's "She's Just A Girl From Brooklyn."

A scrapper and a survivor with the Will to carry out the Oath, say it with me now, True Believers: "In Brightest Day..."

I needed to give her something to compensate a bit for her Inherent Ability. Yes, it can impact her offensive and defensive capabilities, but she perseveres despite it all, and I think this reflects that. Paired with "A New Kind of Ring," I think this will keep the pressure on even while she's "recharging."

This is the last Jo card for now, but I've got a couple more to brew before I can officially call her kit complete!

#funaday2026 Day 18: Kneel puny humans, for the Blood Devil Fiend treads before you.

I gave Denji and Aki some love, but it was finally time to get to my favorite Chainsaw Man character, the impetuous, irreverent, dangerous cat-loving Power!

Maybe I've said this before, but I'm really trying to establish "color identity" in this game and her IA feel fitting for the grid she's been given and the life she's livin'. Soak up damage and revel in violence, ya know?

I'm excited to iron out this trio and slowly but surely put together a deep dive into the entire series!

#funaday2026 Day 19: spent a lazy day rewatching three movies I've been meaning to get back to for a while: Boogie Nights and Kill Bill 1 & 2, and while Dirk Diggler's massive... weapon doesn't seem a great fit for OP, the Bride certainly does.

Jeeny pushed me to cook her up and here we are! One of the most dogged and deadly assassins, Beatrix Kiddo's revenge tour left a trail of bodies across the globe.

I've got a few ideas for the rest of her kit, but the plan is to make her fast, combo heavy, and hard to kill.

#funaday2026 Day 20 - Quick Energy/Fighting remodel of "A New Kind of Ring," "The Last Blade of Hattori Hanzō" feels like a natural choice to EMPOWER characters fit for fighting.

Gotta figure out the Strength and Intellect ones next, but not sure where I'll land with those quite yet. Chime in if you've got any suggestions, ya nerds!

Two things:

1) I'm thinking of reworking how EMPOWER works already by lowering the value of the card you can pull, which I think would allow me to do one or both of the following: a) let the card be a duplicate and b) let the card be placed directly to the Artifact itself, freeing up the Character's own placing slot for bigger PCs.

2) Wow, I hate Quentin Tarantino as a person but I really love Kill Bill!

#funaday2026 Day 21: the brutal and cunning leader of the Yakuza, Cottonmouth herself: O-Ren Ishii. She's my favorite of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, so I'm hoping to do her justice.

I hadn't created anything using the "RECRUIT" mechanic developed by TPD Cards yet, and figured she, as the leader of Yakuza, protected as she is by Johnny Mo, Gogo Yubari, and the Crazy 88, would be a great fit.

Once I get to the Specials, I want it to feel like she's just throwing bodies at you, wearing you down until the final bout, just like the movie!

I really enjoyed putting this together, the excellent art by Craig Drake captures O-Ren perfectly without feeling too photorealistic and I love the Nagle-print aesthetic. I tried something new with the text shadows, throwing on a stroke of a relevant color which really makes it all pop.

#funaday2026 Days 22 & 23 - I actually skipped Day 22 and ended up knocking the out back to back Day 23. I couldn't leave O-Ren unprotected for too long, though, so here's the legion of goons one must get through first!

Gogo is such an icon that she can't be ignored, but her and the 88 don't have quite enough presence in the movie to make whole Character kits.

I think that's where TPD kicked open the design space when they decided to create SUPPORT Characters (and that ain't the first time, either!) Bit players with heavy zeitgeist cachet or omnipresent but underdeveloped background filler (think Trek's Red Shirts or Wars' Stormtroopers) can get a chance to shine.

They die with just one Hit, but don't count toward your TPD and open up some gnarly combo potential. They don't have Specials themselves, but the RECRUIT Characters should have synergies built into their kit to support, well, the SUPPORT.

I'm excited to keep messing around with this mechanic and proud of this first foray!
