For years as the newspaper industry was dying, I would simultaneously think, “Those poor people. Who’s going to watch out for local government corruption!?” And, “Thank goodness I have the Washington Post.” Yesterday they gutted the Metro Section, and I cancelled my subscription. Now I’m one those poor people. The devastation is just dawning on me.
@Spacehistory I was thinking about writing a letter to the editor to talk about zoning legislation in Virginia and then had to pause and think “what editor?” Most of the people I know who read papers read the NYT or the Post.
@Lyle In DC, the mayor and the Congressional Delegate are both retiring. Plus someone is challenging the City Council Chair. I have no idea how I’m going to find information I can trust.
