www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02... Ending a national rental affordability scheme (NRAS) in a housing crisis without any obvious solutions hitting the ground in any way at all is literally a government investing in classist power trips over people they leave destitute. 🀬 #auspol #housing

Fears for thousands of renters as rental affordability scheme ends

Vulnerable and elderly residents in homes subsidised by the National Rental Affordability Scheme are staring down decade-long waitlists for social housing as the scheme draws to a close.

The average #rental price is $650/week in Australia. This is more than the total per week a JobSeeker gets, of $849.90 (maximum payment possible per fortnight). The maximum amount of rent assistance that person can get is if sharing $143.60 or if living alone $215.40. =#homeless!
Mass evictions is where #homeless people come from! Evictions due to non rent payment. Using the State police to boot good people out of their homes because the economy is out of control. And the poor have nothing to do with causing inflation. #HousingNow #NoEvictionsToHomelessness #auspol #home
Everytime the Government increases rent assistance the landlords increase rent by the same amount
That they don’t make that practice illegal as they increase commonwealth rent assistance is a fact that has falsely inflated the #Housing #market. Rent increases need to be capped at or lower than increases to the CPI and rent assistance should ensure enough to pay bills and live after rent. #auspol
