Houston 4th Ward AKA Freedman’s Town was essentially bulldozed & paved over between the 1940s & 1970s in order the build I-45 and what is now The Allen Parkway Village. In recent years there have been efforts to restore and preserve parts what remains of the Freedman’s Town district (https://houstonfreedmenstown.org/our-history/)
