#BoyScouts (or just Scouts now, I guess) have never been a perfect organization, but speaking as an #EagleScout I've got to say that they instilled many values I pride myself in today.

"A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

Our military has divorced itself from those values of late.

Pentagon threatens to cut ties with Scouting America over ‘core values’

Defense department says it may end support unless youth group abandons inclusivity and returns to ‘God and country’ values

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to dog and my country and to obey the Scout Law
To help other people at all times
To keep my physically fit, mentally awake, and morally [ugh]

@ohmu

Heh yeah that bit didn't really age well, did it?

The 'reverent' part didn't really take for me personally, either. Though I do feel that one can be reverent towards an ideology/philosophy rather than a religion, and better for it.

I like to think that the 'morally [ugh]' bit is more in reference to substances/vice than to homosexuality, but that's not a hill I'll die defending. As I said, they're not a perfect organization.

Inclusivity in 2025 is neat though.

@dicenbuttons
Hah!
Thank you.
I mainly meant to show that the scouts were important enough to me that I can still recite the oath from memory 40 years later.
The bleeps are just me dealing with the parts of it that don't work for me.

@ohmu

They really do drill that stuff into you hahaha.
