We're investigating European-based Patreon alternatives. Does anyone have any experience with any of them? We're looking at Steady but it appears that they process their payments through Paypal which kinda defeats the point of trying to use a European platform...

Thanks for all these responses everyone! We're going to look into them all further. We've also just heard from Steady that they are soon going to be adding a European-based payment provider option.
@europeanspodcast I only have experience with @Liberapay as a giver and not as a receiver, but it is by far my preferred platform for recurring donations. I have never heard any complaints from those on the receiving end either.

@brekke Liberapay has the same issue as Steady though as the only payment options are US companies, Stripe (partly owned by Elon Musk and Peter Thiel) and Paypal.

It's a shame there's not a simple SEPA payment option as it looks really good otherwise.

Liberapay has never had a rigid roadmap, and we don't usually announce things in advance, but today we can say: - Two noteworthy new features will be available soon, one for donees and one for donors. - Later this year, Liberapay will add support for at least one more payment method, thanks to a grant from NLnet.

@roy That's good! I will probably use it then as I refuse to ever use Stripe or Paypal.

@europeanspodcast liberapay? iirc SEPA transfers/direct debit are supported even though they use stripe for credit cards
@europeanspodcast If you just want to get payments then Mollie or Stancer are EU alternatives, but they are just payment providers, they won't give a news feed or other features like Patreon does.
@europeanspodcast closest thing would be LiberaPay but AFAIK it's based on very different principles, as it's designed primarily for donations to FLOSS projects/developers.
@europeanspodcast what about open collective europe?
@europeanspodcast I think you can just publish a EPC QR code and receive payments, via European SEPA credit transfers. If you want to provide exclusive content, additional tools might be needed -- but have look at how @Codeberg is handling their donations. This might be a viable way: https://docs.codeberg.org/improving-codeberg/donate/

@europeanspodcast hm. in europe, bank transfers and standing orders just work.
@europeanspodcast steady.page is a german based service for media creators. Like if you want membership and paywalls. (If you just want to receive payments, I still think a bank account is enough.)
@europeanspodcast ghost.org? It’s more like a blog with a monetisation system but could do the trick. Integrates with Stripe.

@europeanspodcast The original #European equivalent of #Patreon is #Tipeee: https://en.tipeee.com/

It's been around since 2013, same year Patreon launched.

The @snowdrift project has long maintained a wiki page describing and comparing many crowdfunding platforms. You might want to take a look at it if you haven't already: https://wiki.snowdrift.coop/market-research/other-crowdfunding

WERO anyone? (as a substitute for papyal payments)

@europeanspodcast Hello! We are a micro and continuous patronage platform based in Catalonia. We work with Stripe as a payment processor. But, at the moment, due to legal issues, we can only open the registration of new projects for proposals located within the Spanish State. Soon we will also open the registration for France, Andorra and Italy.
