Kravica Waterfall in Bosnia. One of my favourites for #WaterfallWednesday.

We were staying in Sarajevo and after a couple of days we thought we'd take a day trip to Mostar. We went to a "car rental" place near our hotel which turned out to be a half empty storefront in a crowded back alley with some 20 year old sitting in a dusty old office chair.

We walked in and asked to rent a car (because for some reason when Aled and I are on holiday all common sense gets left at home), the kid looked at us genuinely confused and started kind of looking around the office space as if a fleet of new Hondas might materialise at any moment. We asked: Are we in the right place... Do you rent cars? Oh, yes. Yes, he assured us. Come back in 30 minutes.

We left knowing full well at this point that something wasn't quite right. But we're most definitely the "fuck it, let's see what happens" types so we had a snack and went back. The guy was still there but with another 20 year old guy with keys to a tiny, filthy black car. Aled went ahead and signed a piece of paper and I think we paid something like £10. Inside the car was also filthy, the ashtray (remember those?) was overflowing with ciggie butts and there were empty cans rolling around in the back.

Despite being 💯 certain that we were simply borrowing this kid's car for the day, we hopped in and took a fantastic trip to Mostar (where we also took a wrong turn and ended up driving into a pedestrian zone while locals at cafes looked either bemused or homicidal).

We then decided to travel further on to Kravica Waterfalls speeding up and down mountains on winding roads and not killing ourselves (bonus). And it was well worth it. It was March so we had the place completely to ourselves.

We made it back to Sarajevo alive and a good day was had. The end.

Oh I hope we can go there one day 🩵
We'll go to even better waterfalls! 💙😎
When we visited the area in 2018, we stayed at a lovely rustic campsite in Blagaj. We didn't want to drive our campervan into Mostar, so we asked the site owners how to get there, expecting them to suggest a taxi. Instead, the owner packed us into his ancient car and drove us himself. (That ashtray you mentioned triggered this memory by the way! 😂) I was terrified because I had our baby in a sling rather than a fancy car seat, but I don't think there were seat belts in the back anyway. 😂 It was quite the experience, and the people were so incredibly kind and helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer. 🥹
Hahaha🤣🤣 That sounds just about right! People were absolutely lovely but safety isn't their #1 concern. 😅
