Thinking of adding a sort of #microblog element to my personal site (bcavello.com) because I am finding it intimidating to add new posts because I want to keep my posts section with a level of deep premeditation and polish. But I also have ideas that I often sit on FOR YEARS and it’s frustrating to not have written them down or shared them.
Things on my writing #ToDoList that have been for multiple years:
- #Levers vs #Microscopes, and different types of technologies that augment #labor
- Work worth NOT doing, and frameworks for determining whether other people’s buy-in and #consent should be needed for a person to do something (have #agency)
- There are #RebelsInTheDeathStar (this has probably been 10 years on the to-do list 🫠)
- It isn’t dead, yet, but #PrivacyIsInHospice
- The #FunEconomy, and new modes of measuring progress
I think I want to give myself a space to explore an idea or capture something I’m thinking about, even if it’s not ā€œfinished,ā€ and differentiate that from the stuff I feel proud to have put effort into communicating clearly. I feel like I DO want to keep a zone for things that are like my guides on #HowTo get into #AIPolicy, for instance, (https://posts.bcavello.com/how-to-get-into-ai-policy-part-1/) and I don’t want to bury that kinda thing with a million short snippets… but maybe separating is unnecessary?
What do you think?
How to get into AI policy (part 1)

@b_cavello are you open to suggestions?
@copiesofcopies Please! I’d welcome advice both from a user experience/reader perspective as well as different tools and approaches.
I’m currently using #Publii for CMS on the regular blog side of things, and I’d mostly imagined just doing more of that, but welcome ideas.
Also if you have thoughts on the ā€œjust getting yourself to do itā€ front, that’s also something I’d be delighted to hear from others on!
@b_cavello it’s more of the latter šŸ™‚ it really seems like you’re letting perfect be the enemy of good (which I do a lot of). Thoughts: (1) it will probably not bother anyone else to see the different kinds of posts intermixed: (2) it will probably not bug you much in practice; (3) you may be able to tag/categorize them so the ā€œpostsā€ link only takes you to the long form posts; (4) if you don’t like it, you can always pull those posts out after you do the reorg.
@copiesofcopies That’s a good point! It’s not permanent

@b_cavello @copiesofcopies small counterpoint to 1: I *much* prefer being able to easily navigate polished, refined content vs off-the-cuff stuff (though appreciate both!)

But yeah, categorization is also a solution that can work, and as long as you have an easy way or distinguishing internally, nothing is permanent! (and Getting Started Now is absolutely valuable)

@b_cavello Hi! Do you somehow also have my brain? This is more or less exactly a dilemma I face as well.
@spencer Omg, REAL! If you want an accountabilibuddy to try things out with, I’m game
