I want it to be AI slop, but it's not.
@JulianOliver I recently read that Noam has an extremely problematic past with women that I wasn't aware of previously.
@ricardoharvin Didn't know of this. Betrayal feelings here tbh. Have his books on our shelf.
@JulianOliver Yeah, it's disappointing how many people I once respected have proven to be so much less than they portray themselves to be, in so many ways that, to me, seem entirely opposite of what they profess.
@JulianOliver I've been hoping #Chomsky would be able to issue some statement of his own. This now from Valeria Chomsky, helps somewhat: https://znetwork.org/znetarticle/official-statement-from-valeria-chomsky-regarding-jeffrey-epstein/
Official Statement From Valeria Chomsky Regarding Jeffrey Epstein

As many are aware, my husband, Noam Chomsky, now 97, is confronting significant  health challenges after suffering a devastating stroke in June 2023.

@danstowell I want to believe it but cannot unfortunately. He ranted against the MeToo movement, giving this ultra-rich vocally far right US libertarian, someone supposedly polar to Chomsky's values, the benefit of the doubt, and this was after Epstein had been broadly accused.

It feels like legacy washing and I don't like writing this as I've valued his work so much over the years.

@danstowell he wrote:

"What the vultures dearly want is a public response, which then provides a public opening for an onslaught of venomous attacks, many from just publicity seekers or cranks of all sorts [...] That’s particularly true now with the hysteria that has developed about abuse of women, which has reached the point that even questioning a charge is a crime worse than murder"

Why would he write that to Epstein after being accused, as those abused come forward? He picked a side.
