I’ve been listening to Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks. It definitely feels a bit like a Traveller adventure, he keeps getting knocked from one bad situation to another. Good read so far.

@deinol Have read that book a couple of times. If you like this, and sci-fi, I can highly recommend any of his books (I've read them all, even his straight fiction).
Many of his s i-fi books are set in The Culture universe. Some are not.
My stand out favourite, and possibly my favourite book of all time, is "Excession".
Enjoy
@NickSchwanck @deinol Excession is awesome. He's dead on one of the best writers of his time. All of his stuff. As a writer, I can only look at his body of work and think ... the bastard.
@Robert_Brandt @deinol I mainly love his sci-fi, but his first novel is an absolute tour-de-force.
@NickSchwanck @deinol I like his sci-fi best also, and I think he really crafts it, they are longer than most of his other novels. Totally, Wasp Factory, Song of Stone I like of his regular fiction.
@NickSchwanck @deinol Because of this thread I am re-reading Excession.
@Robert_Brandt @NickSchwanck @deinol I am literally in the middle of reading the Prologue to Excession currently. his stuff is always a joy to read at the level of English narrative alone, imo. he's a frickin maestro of linguistic craft
@synlogic4242 @NickSchwanck @deinol He raises the bar sky high, definitely an awesome writer.
@NickSchwanck @deinol Excession is my favorite as well. The Interesting Times gang.
@cruftbox @deinol The names of the ships neatly showcase his sense of humour.

@deinol Great book, I loved the construction of the storyline. Got top rating from me.

@deinol you cant go wrong with any of his Culture universe sci-fi novels
@deinol Clear Air Turbulence's crew is real Travellerish, pretty sure he knew that also. He liked games.
@deinol Just finished that as well. Do you want to take a stab at predicting how it ends?
