@japipes This picture sent me a short distance down what is apparently a shallow rabbit hole: Did all Volkswagen 'Beetles' have flat side glass windows? I found that the 'super' beetle came with a curved windshield but nothing was said about the side windows having 'tumblehome'.

Good question - I am supremely unqualified to answer your question, unfortunately.

@japipes Hey, I think Volkswagen stopped production of the Beetle in 1977, meaning that if you are like most people on Mastodon, this was before you were born. I therefore would be surprised if you were knowledgeable of Beetles. I, on the other hand, was in graduate school in 1977.

I always wanted a Karmann Ghia but not badly enough to actually pull the trigger on buying one.

In 1977, I was in 4th grade, so not quite driving yet (and preoccupied with land speeders and X-Wing fighters). But I was familiar with the "bug" although I've never actually ridden in one.

@japipes I went to see Star Wars 4 times in the first couple of weeks it was in theaters.

It was ground-breaking, as much so as 2001 A Space Odyssey, but with more 'heroes journey' for a broader appeal.
