Two CBP Agents Identified in Alex Pretti Shooting

The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.

ProPublica
A note from our editors:
@ProPublica replace “fatal shooting” with “execution” or “murder” and stop sane washing this bullshit please.

@coltonwise @ProPublica

there's a difference between a 'sane washing' rationalization of dementia and psychosis related performatively cruel behavior,

and respect for the rules of jurisprudence, and presumed innocence, imho.

@coltonwise @ProPublica

you're confusing Propublica with for-profit media. Propublica are the good ones. we really don't need to attack fucking everyone and everything on the left in performative fashion for perceived lack of purity, please. we have much more important targets. adjust who you fucking criticize, please. might i suggest WaPo or NYT

@benroyce @coltonwise @ProPublica

Proper journalistic practice, which ProPublica is following here, requires not getting ahead of the facts and evidence. By not using the word "murder" loosely, they're exercising proper journalism.

You know and I know it was murder, but we're not stating that as journalists reporting on a story. And ProPublica isn't saying that it WASN'T murder, either.

@n1xnx @coltonwise @ProPublica

exactly

and yet this endless fucking parade of performative bullshit from purity masturbators. i just wish the fucking left could learn to aim at MAGA and not at themselves for the slightest perception of imperfection

though they might not even be real left

it's so easy for edgelord cosplayers to play troll games on fake high holy outrage over every forced, contrived perception of supposed inadequacy. and yet there is an audience of dimwits for this shit

@benroyce @coltonwise @ProPublica

"and yet there is an audience of dimwits for this shit" is probably a good description of most if not all human history, but yes.

@n1xnx @benroyce @coltonwise @ProPublica Journalists have to state the facts as they are at the time the story is published. That said, *all* news media need to *STOP* using passive voice sentence construction when police are "involved".

🚫 "...agents involved in the fatal shooting of..."
✔ "...agents who shot and killed..."

@log @n1xnx @coltonwise @ProPublica

sure but this is navel gazing

we have fascists in the white house pushing straight lies about Minneapolis

and they won partly because so many on the left care more about tearing into each other rather than confronting the real enemy

endlessly micromanaging some absurd need to achieve purity

rather than, you know, notice that we're fucking drowning in fascism?

prioritizing that 5 alarm fire in our focus?

why the fuck do many on the left not see this?

@benroyce @coltonwise @ProPublica Ben Royce makes a good point. Non-profit ProPublica is, in fact, worthy of our $ support.

@patrascan @benroyce @coltonwise I’ll be happy to start supporting @ProPublica again, as soon as they agree to the entirely reasonable demands of @propublicaguild

The Union Place

@mivox @patrascan @coltonwise @ProPublica @propublicaguild

great

so we have an unresolved labor argument that is still ongoing, as there always is, and so you withhold your support?

you realize the guild you're supposedly championing could use the money too?

there's a bigot plutocrat owned media company somewhere happy to hire to push lies instead

i really really despise this sort of performative, empty, eventually self-defeating purity song and dance

attack the right not the left

@benroyce That’s a bot account. You don’t need to waste time on bot accounts. They’re there to divide and to get people riled up.

@Spacehistory

yes but it's important to push back

we can block them or ignore them but they're still here, spreading their poison

so i prefer confronting them

an orthogonal situation is the vatnik accounts i keep seeing (accounts spreading kremlin lies)

block? ignore?

i fight them

sometimes i get enough material to generate a report, and maybe get them suspended

this approach is not for everyone

i do not expect others to have the patience, stomach, or desire to fight trolls

but i will

My guy. Whatever personal vendetta my comment clearly struck with you isn’t that big of a deal. You disagree with my comment, then move on. Your multi comment tirade is cringe as fuck.

@coltonwise

cringe is indeed the issue here Colton, although you should consider yours more than you consider mine

@benroyce @Spacehistory

You can’t out reason stupid. Maybe you can influence some bystanders, which is something.
Just saw Sean Spicer talking about the Texas Senate special election.
In 2022 250 people voted Democratic , in 2026 50 thousand did.

Be a good person, live a good life, there is a good chance this thing is dying on the vine in front of us.

Ah yes, that must be it! I disagree with that person, they MUST be a bot. 😂

@coltonwise

a "bot" is not a markov chain chatbot per se

it also applies to real people that are pursuing a scripted agenda

and also people who don't think very much, and therefore are comparable in cerebral wattage to a small chatbot script

but i have to thank you Colton

you inspired my now top pinned post:

https://mastodon.social/@benroyce/115998438888912568

@benroyce the irony of you accusing me of “performative bullshit from purity masturbators” and then going on whatever-the-fuck this rant is, is golden.
@coltonwise i'm glad you're entertained. so do you understand my point? or are you stuck on the "no u! "no u!" "no u!" defense mechanism because of your ego? it's ok, we all have an ego. but sometimes you gotta admit a point my friend

@utopiarte @Spacehistory @coltonwise

I gave you a favorite to help with your dopamin needs

@benroyce I’m sorry, what?

@Spacehistory

this troll utopiarte elsewhere in this thread accused me of just seeking dopamine, so i'm giving their troll back

if you don't see the comment, and you block that account or it blocks you, in the mobile UI there is a bug where it looks like i'm responding to you, because you don't see the intervening comment that was responding to you that i am responding to

How dare you expecting a kettle being called a kettle @coltonwise?
What's next, are you gone call a pot a pot?

@ProPublica

@utopiarte @ProPublica @coltonwise

because a professional news organization is more constrained in their use of language out of prudent responsibility

i actually agree with colton's language

but i disagree with his pointless criticism of propublica

you realize a news organization does not operate with the same casual nature of some hothead loudmouth shitposter on social media, right?

and if such a shitposter demands that the news org speak like they do, that that's fucking stupid?

@benroyce

@coltonwise is not @ProPublica.

Everybody plays his part, that's as normal as it can get.

Meanwhile you are the hothead, insulting Colton as loud as your mouth can get, tone policing apparently the entire community, bringing twitter over here, to the point of "generating reports"?
you do you

btw
You have problems with people pointing out that an assassination was an execution commanded by Trump, but publishing real names of real people because they are mentioned in some paper, not to mention that the names themselves are as common as Steven Miller or Jon Doe, in circumstances like these is A-ok.

That's as embarrassing as it get's.

Germans call people like you "Blockwart", and they know why.

btw
You weren't even mentioned in my comment and you're on mastodon, having fun rioting on your phone?
I hope you enjoy the dopamin I just granted you for free.

.. have fun ..

@utopiarte @ProPublica @coltonwise

are you ok?

that's a lot of words to miss the fucking point

@benroyce

.. if you say so ..

@utopiarte

You responded to a comment where I said "i actually agree with colton's language"

So.... do you have a problem with reading comprehension or do you think you''re a clever troll or... what? Because your entire song and dance is rather immaterial

Although you did give me clue with the weird projection about "dopamin." So I guess all I can say is I'm glad you're enjoying yourself?

You’re wasting time with this guy unfortunately. Just let him have the last word and move on lol, he sure isn’t going to.

@coltonwise @utopiarte

great, i will then

i have nothing against utopiarte, they just seem confused

as for colton wise, he's an idiot hypercriticizing the left and ignoring the real problem, the right

@coltonwise
Just straight out of the CIA handbook ..
We should call for a commission and have a vote!
@ProPublica now Luigi knows who they are
@ProPublica this is a great example of why independent journalism is so important.
@ProPublica I'd like to know what the government promised these guys (above the $50,000 bonus) in order to get them to participate in an armed attack on the civilian population.

@Axomamma
Probably nothing. There are plenty of right-wing thugs that would see the opportunity to terrorize the populace as a fringe benefit.

@ProPublica

@scandigonian Maybe but ...

@Axomamma @scandigonian

nah, Will's right

sadism is real

there are certain characters attracted to this sort of job because they get off on torture and murder

@Axomamma @ProPublica Neither of these guys got the sign-on bonus, they've both been with ICE/DHS for years.

@sidereal @Axomamma @ProPublica bloody good thing to point out. How many bodies were hastily disposed of at the border. These people kill very casually and their first response was to hide and attempt to evade justice.

That's practiced behaviour. This was so outrageous to people because because it was done in the interior on camera. There needs to be a real reckoning, not just these two monsters held accountable.

@sidereal They may not have gotten the sign-on bonus but it would not surprise me at all that they took the job with the promise that their relatives would be left alone.
@Axomamma @ProPublica they promised them the opportunity to kill people and get by with it.
@ProPublica 'Sunlight ruins the Ice", that's why today's NHL outdoor game kept a tent over the playing surface until game day. 'Sunlight ruins ICE' also pertains to the federal agency. Removing their 'tent' of secrecy is important.
@ProPublica Can you imagine the widespread elation if justice is actually served and these two go to jail for second degree murder?
@reay @ProPublica That's not how justice work under fascism.

@ZoidbergForPresident @reay @ProPublica

so we better fucking vote

Voting (democracy) assumes that the average person is intelligent enough to make a sensible decision.

This assumption might be false, especially in countries with a sub standard education level, or countries flooded by disinformation.

This is how we got where we are now.

@FransVeldman @reay @ZoidbergForPresident @ProPublica

so what's the other options?

when you answer that question, i expect you to come back with full throated support for democracy

if you can't, you really haven't thought through the problem

a sick democracy needs to be healed, fixed. not abandoned

we can't question democracy itself, because the other options are far worse

We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Governing a country shouldn’t have to be any different from governing a company or an industry.

Do we vote among patients who is going to be entitled to yield the scalpel in the operation room? Do we vote among the airplane passengers who’s going to be their pilot in command? We already know that would going to be a disaster. Instead, everyone in the surgery room and cockpit is required to have the relevant education, and be screened for psychological features such as a proper balance between being decisive and cooperative, and be ruled out if any psychological features are found that are not compatible with being in charge with the safety of a few hundred passengers.

Why would we have to allow any politicians who don’t have a relevant education and have obvious psychological defects? Why can’t we just select politicians on their suitability for their job?

Why do we have a high court with judges, but not a high counsel which is seated by leading scientists, whom can block any regulations that harm our planet?

Democratus (the founder of “democracy”) never intended the voting proces to be participated by literally everyone, but only among the well educated.

If you were an alien, how would you look upon a governing system where the word of a highly educated climate scientists can be nullified by any nitwit? Especially while it is safe to assume that the nitwits outnumber the scientists? Would you be surprised that this planet turned into a big smoking mess?

Although I just like to pinpoint why the world turned into such a big mess, and don’t feel I have to provide a solution just to be qualified to point it out, I can imagine some ways to improve on this.

There are options, like answering a short questionare on the voting form, to show that at least you know the program of the candidate you vote for. If you don’t even know his/her policies, your vote is invalid. At least, this blocks any votes from people who don’t understand what they are voting for. Tell me why that wouldn’t make sense. Another option is to weigh votes based on a mix of education, society contribution, etc. The more you know, the more you care for your fellow humans, the heigher the weight of your vote.

Again, there might be other and better solutions, but I’m not the one who has to find them, just to be qualified to point out the problem.

The current concept of “democracy” is invented by capitalists, for capitalist, because they know that this will keep them in control. There is a reason why the government consists mainly by economists, billionaires, etc. It is not a coincidence that America has always been very aggressive in “installing democracy” in other countries.

This concept of democracy has been forced fed to us during our entire lifes, and has become to many as some sort of religion. It is the best and not worth any rethinking, right? And reject anyone who questions it as if it is a blasphemy.

You might disagree with (some of) what I have said. But I hope that at least we can agree that the world is a big smoking mess and that democracy doesn’t seem to be able to achieve a sustainable, safe live for all human beings.

@FransVeldman @reay @ZoidbergForPresident @ProPublica

i don't disagree with anything you said

the issue isn't that you can envision a better democracy, a vision i agree with

the issue is *how* we get there

and how we get there is through participating in the current shit show

some have an allergy to this. that doing so is corrupting their soul or some other immature melodramatic bs

so many go "it's not perfect, so i prefer to not vote and let us slide into fascism"

that's the problem

@benroyce
Ben, I think we need to encourage people to think more like performance artists. You have to riff with the material you’ve been given. We have a long-running script and we all still have to perform with it; the innovation and the artistry comes from how you syncopate and harmonize within the set rhythm and melody. Think of the best jazz combo you’ve ever heard. You could start off with a car alarm as the inspiration, and those musicians will turn it into a dynamic evolving whirlwind of music.

Another way of thinking about it: “You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a future time” - Donald Rumsfeld, god help me for quoting that guy.
@FransVeldman @reay @ZoidbergForPresident @ProPublica
