Today is Jamie's repotting day! They've outgrown the purple pot, so they're getting upgraded to a new, larger gray pot. They're also getting extra special treatment with a custom potting mix and pretty river rocks as mulch!

Potting mix:
7 cups coco coir (which I hydrated yesterday and allowed to dry out a bit overnight)
3 cups perlite
2 cups worm castings
1.5 tablespoons dolomitic lime

This was way more potting mix than I needed, but I wanted to ensure I had more than necessary, not less. I had enough to refill the purple pot, so I planted a new jalapeno seed. I'll name it Jackie if it sprouts.

There was a bit of a brief crisis after repotting. I watered Jamie in the sink and the pot slipped out of my hands. Jaime was leaning heavily so I had to reset the soil.

I will say that while the hydroponics-grown jalapenos have the obvious advantage of faster and fuller growth, both Jerry and Julie lean heavily into their supports. They'd both be laying on their crowns without being tied to a trellis. Jaime is growing much more slowly and producing less fruit, but the soil provides enough stability that they don't need a trellis.

Hopefully Jaime and Jackie will get enough light behind the gardens. Jerry casts a big shadow.

Garden #3 is up and running! This one will be devoted to herbs, since the jalapenos are now hogging all the light from gardens #1 & 2.

I sprouted 2 dill and 2 cilantro. There are more seeds sprouting on the counter in case these don't take.

I also moved Jackie Jalapeno's pot in front of the third garden, since there's currently more light there. I think Jamie Jalapeno is doing fine behind the other two gardens.

The indoor #garden keeps growing! The plants, and the garden itself. Jackie Jalapeno outgrew their pot and has been moved to the largest available pot, which is just slightly smaller than Jaime's pot. I also got grow lights for the two of them so they aren't totally reliant on the #Hydroponics systems for light. The pepper harvest is booming. Jerry and Julie continue to produce more and bigger peppers than the potted plants. The Dill and Cilantro are also doing well. I'm really happy with this setup! I know I'm paying more than I would at a grocery store, but I don't know of any stores that sell fully ripe jalapenos and I'm now spoiled. Fresh dill is also hard to find, though I finally found a store that reliably has fresh cilantro.

Wow! What a green thumb you have!

@flcardiacnurse

Thank you! I must say, it's a lot easier indoors. I don't have to worry about extreme temperatures or pests! 😂

@sapphire
Or hurricanes 😆
