The mission sounded easy enough - Reconnaissance. Scout the base. So why did command send all high-ranking specialists?
Well, nothing ever goes according to plan anyway, now does it?

We were all close to suffocating, and we hadn't even left Section A. Honestly, I wasn't too worried - I was in the Life Support control room for Section A, I just had to fix it in order to turn on air. Add to that, command had given me a separate task through the usual "unofficial" channels - They'd "appreciate" if I was the only one leaving the base alive. I guess this explains the unusual squad setup.

Of course, Heavy was being extra noisy, as per her usual, and in no time we had the Primeblood Queen standing in the room with us. Heavy, being clumsy as ever, had already wrecked both her weapons in small skirmishes beforehand, so I fixed one of them and pointed her in the general direction of the Queen. No need for anyone to feel I'm not a team player, right?

Officer stayed a room back and shouted at us to kill the Queen, and me and Heavy took care of her. But as soon as I turned my back, a Larva plopped up from *somewhere* and went for Heavy. Well, isn't that sad and unfortunate and all! Anyway, we didn't get much done the next few minutes. Instead of recon, we killed a seemingly endless mass of Primebloods. I guess they weren't happy about their Queen.

Heavy was also busy searching for the Surgery in particular, she was really worried about that Larva that had infested her.

I was a few rooms away when the Larva hatched. I heard the screams, though. As much as I had a certain amount of antipathy, this is no way to go, especially for a dual weapon wielding heavy gunner.

Did make my job easier, though.

Officer killed the Primeblood that had spawned out of her almost immediately, but honestly, when it comes to him, it was more luck than anything. It's not like he's a particularly good shot.

Time flew past. The lander was on approach and close to the landing pad, and we hadn't disabled the anti-air. Hell, we hadn't even managed to find out where to go for its controls!
In the end, we shouldn't have worried. The lander arrived safely, with the anti-air having been disabled all this time.
What about my mission, though. Officer must have suspected something being off about me. I could convince him though, bullshitting him about having to secure some data in the Server room. That idiot even helped me "accomplish" that. He send me off to search for it, promising to wait for me near the lander. He went off to try and get rid of his contamination. Lucky for me, he almost immediately ran into a Primeblood Drone which hit him hard.
I ran back to the lander, hoping to go off and leave him behind, but he saw me and came running for the lander, too, Primebloods in tow!
I was too slow. Sure, I got on the lander, but Officer did, too, before I could hit launch. Now I'm sitting here, eyeing him. He'd got contaminated, and I'm pretty sure he hasn't had time to get decontaminated.
My best hope now to complete my mission now ... Is that Officer's regular breathing? Or ... Is that a Larva moving in his chest?

addendum:

I haven't even told you the creepiest thing.
You know the exoskeleton Heavy used? The one nobody would be capable of operating the BFG or the gattling without? Let alone both weapons at the same time?

Well that bloody thing doesn't topple over if its operator dies! It just remains standing, in the flickering lights of the decon room, and you need to get real close and personal before you see the user is literally just hanging in there.

@inanedirk Ja und wie geht’s jetzt weiter????
@Caeri 😂
