And also a LOOOT more useful
@stux Yeah, well I actually bought WinRAR back in the days 😊
@arutaz @stux I don’t know if I did I think I bought winzip. That’s before I switched to gentoo.
@stux 😳🤣🤣
@stux OpenAI will never be able to pay off its debts. The question is who is willing to lose that amount of money.

@alterelefant @stux
There’s (almost) always a greater fool…

@Z_Zed_Zed
That's the basis of every investment scheme isn't it? Find someone who is a greater fool than you to pass the burden on to.
@stux
@stux I use NanaZip, thank you.
@LanceJZ
7zip rox 😁
@stux
@Badmax @stux I used to use 7zip. NanaZip is also open source, I love how it integrates into Windows.
@stux you could cook pizzas using dollar bills as fuel and you would still be more profitable than openAI.
@stux I wonder when ChatGPT starts asking for donations. “You know, if you find me useful, or you appreciate me treating you like a predestined meta human, please consider giving me some extra financial support this month.” Maybe the failed model push will inadvertently normalize investment in “free” or shareware, open source support.
@stux
7zip exists, but you're still correct.
@stux the Winzip icon was a lot better though 😄
@stux Just one more funding round of ~$100B, I swear it this time
@stux I've always preferred 7zip

@nieuemma
I wanted to say, WinRar is 30 years older than 7zip, only to read on Wikipedia that 7zip was first released 1999 and thusly only a handful years after WinRar

7-Zip - Wikipedia

@stux

Haha, and you never need to pay for it.
It has the longest free trial period in computer history, since more then 30 years!

@stux
OMG! Let them get up!
@stux I disagree. WinRAR is proprietary software that is great at making proprietary-format archives that are difficult to decompress using FOSS (unrar-free and 7-zip still stumble on a good portion of the format due to licensing restrictions). OpenAI has made a bigger impact on open research: fast, accurate transcriptions (whisper), RL (gym), and of course LLMs (starting with GPT-2, and of course ChatGPT and the "gpt-oss" models).
