Happy New Year everyone, specially all my #BelieveInFilm #FilmPhotography friends.

I'm going to break my image thread as we start 2026, even though I've only got to October. The old thread ended at https://mastodon.scot/@carusb/115812996539286193

The premise is, at least one photo from each roll of film. It seems I can't post a link and a photo, so the latter will follow.

Walking down to Portobello West Prom. I think this frame is a reasonable metaphor for walking into a New Year in hope.

Tree in Abbey Fields. This is the only frame I'll show in this thread from a roll of #Phoenix200 at EI 125 in 120, in my Fuji #GS645S. The colours just came out too weird (I already shared a frame with red berries that came out a weird orange). That trunk is grey-brown, not green at all! Develop and scan by Filmdev.

Pollarded oak, last autumn. Not easy to see, but there is a crack in the main trunk, 2" wide at the top. I think that's why they pollarded it. Regrowth has been very poor.

@carusb Such a beautiful scene.
@tomnorthfilm Thanks Tom. We had come in on a side path and turned left (the other direction), but this was just calling to me. Sadly the last frame of the film; only about 30 exposures out of 36 because of weird frame spacing issues on the mju II.
@carusb what a lovely path, serene!
@carusb Interesting. I got boat loads of halation with CineStill 400D (which is why I no longer shoot it) but I’ve not seen it like this on Fuji or Kodak film stocks. I wonder if it had to do with the age.

@tomnorthfilm I think it probably has to do with age, and poor keeping; my film is mostly in a bottom drawer rather than a fridge! But I can't quite work out what the mechanism would be, since the anti-halation layer is a physical layer on the bottom of the film. No obvious sins of decay etc.

The one at edge of frame 4 days ago, I did wonder if it was a lens issue. Harder to blame the lens, so close to the centre. Mind, the light was pretty strong!

@carusb Here are a couple photos I made on the same camera at roughly the same time. The CineStill 400D photo was the last of the roll. I then loaded up some Fuji C200 and took a similar photo. That halation ruined me on 400D. Not a fan.
@tomnorthfilm TBH the tree trunks towards the sun look pretty similar on both photos?
@carusb To my eye the CineStill has red halation that obliterates the tree trunk while the Fuji has an orange glow.
@tomnorthfilm @carusb I'm not sure which, is which, but I prefer the photo on the right, i.e. the one with the red tinge (or to put it another way, the not so green one)
@tapasinthesun @carusb The one you prefer is the Fuji C200 photo.
@tomnorthfilm @carusb Good to know. Maybe one day I will try colour film again. I wouldn't hold my breath though!
@tapasinthesun @carusb Unfortunately, Fuji C200 is no longer available. I still have a few rolls in the freezer. I think my color film days are numbered. I am shooting more and more black and white.
@carusb I like it. Interesting difference in brick hardness and erosion.
@carusb That's a cracking arboretum series.
@carusb I hope it can bounce back.
@analogfusion So do I, but it's not looking promising. I expected new shoots from the truncated limbs, but there are only these pre-existing branches.
@carusb At least it was (apparently) trimmed in an effort to help the tree.
@carusb Such a beautiful scene. Watch your step though!
