#Hackster round-up time, and I'm going to break with tradition and post these out of order - so that I can highlight my very favourite, a look at Piotr Grzesik's M8SBC-486.

It's a motherboard for an Intel i486 or compatible. But... scratch-built. Chipset delivered via #FPGA, two ISA slots, it's capable of running DOS, Windows 3.x (though mouse support is a work-in-progress), Doom... Yeah. Wow.

Then a modular(ish) privacy-centric #tablet heading to #crowdfunding heading to crowdfunding soon, the Brax open_slate - the company's already had one successful campaign for a similar smartphone, though it's still in the process of delivering on that.

The big thing: this can run various #Linux distros as well as #Android.

Some buttery-smooth graphics demos on a #RaspberryPi Pico 2 next - on a low-res single-colour OLED display. Come for Doom (obviously), stay for the live streaming from Blender and on-chip raytracing engine. A bit of film streaming as a bonus, too.

Peter Schmid's Pocket Power Pack is something for the #ModelRail enthusiasts: an all-in-one device that both powers a small layout and controls it too, all from one box. Bluetooth link to your smartphone as a throttle control, too!

And finally, a "broken" clock that's right more than once a day: this fully-working off-the-shelf wall clock has a hand that's frozen in place, yet still tells the time perfectly... because Joren Heit's 3D-printed mechanism rotates the entire clock.

And, for the first time this week but not the last, it's my pleasure to confirm that, yes, all of that can also be read over the #GeminiProtocol with no ads nor tracking.

@ghalfacree
Not necessarily, I just get 'oops an error occurred'. 🥺
@pthane
Working here on both desktop (Lagrange) and mobile (Rosy Crow) - looks like there's been a certificate rollover, so if your client doesn't automatically prompt you may need to delete the old certificate to make way for the new one.
@ghalfacree
It works if I copy the link and paste into mobile Firefox but not if I just click the link in Fedilab. Oh well.
@pthane
What are you using in Firefox to get Gemini support? The only extensions I've found don't work in the Android version, only the desktop version.
@ghalfacree
Dunno, I just poked things and it worked. I've lost the link now, if you send it again I'll try again and take notes.

@pthane Here you go:

gemini://tilde.club/~ghalfacree/

You shouldn't be able to open that in stock Firefox, as it's not an HTTP(S) link - it's Gemini Protocol. There are extensions which will let Firefox "open" the link, but only by passing it through a public HTTP-to-Gemini proxy.

@ghalfacree
I get an error if I just tap the link so I copied it and pasted into Firefox. Yesterday I swear it worked, but today it doesn't. As recall it was a continuous blogroll of links in basic txt mode like a web page from 30 years ago.
@pthane
It should look something like this - but, again, there's absolutely no way you can see that in stock Firefox without using a proxy.
@ghalfacree
Figured out what I did yesterday. When I pasted the link in Firefox I hadn't deleted the address that was already in the address bar. Do then I tidied it up, deleting the 'wrong' parts and must've ended up with http://tilde.club/~ghalfacree/
That does work and has a link to
http://tilde.club/wiki/ which is what I saw. Sorry for the confusion.
