Republic Day – 26 January

India celebrates Republic Day on 26 January to mark the adoption of the Constitution in 1950. This is when India became a sovereign democratic republic, governed by its own laws and institutions.

Republic Day reminds us that freedom only has meaning when backed by the Constitution, rule of law, and citizen rights.
