There’s another shooting in Minneapolis this morning involving ICE.

I have no further info except location, which is not helpful to post publicly at this time. Let the trained observers get there first.

Dammit.

40 agents present at the scene. Eyewitnesses say 5 shots fired at one observer.
Shut it down. Shut it down now. This has to stop.
There is video. Please take care of yourself and your mental health. And please hold space in your heart this morning for the person who was shot, for their loved ones, for those who witnessed it.
I want to emphasize: the graphic details of what ICE did this morning are •extremely• disturbing. It is important to know what is happening, but that does not necessarily mean having every traumatic detail burned into your brain. Please take care of yourself, and be mindful of how you absorb details as they emerge.

‼️ Twin Cities residents‼️

Citywide vigil, on every block

7:00pm tonight

There is no central gathering location, to prevent further ICE / DHS targeting. Vigil location is wherever you are.

Please contact your nearby neighbors now and spread the word. We want the whole city showing up. This has to end.

#MInneapolis #msp #MinneapolisProtests

(That message says “Twin Cities,” but solidarity from afar is welcome, always)

According to Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison:

ICE is blocking MN investigators from the crime scene. The MN National Guard is on the way to force ICE to let investigators in.

(NB: Still trying to find a confirmed source for this; I have no further info yet)

UPDATE: Source for this is somebody at the scene who heard Ellison say it in conversation. Source is likely reliable person, but may have incomplete info. This is a big game of telephone right now, so don’t treat this as authoritative in any way.

(This comes via neighbor chat, someone hearing a live interview. Wasn’t clear from the message whether that was a broadcast interview or conversation on the ground. Trying to find further info.)

Trump admin now claiming ICE was scared and threatened and murdered this man in self-defense.

Please keep in mind the post below.

Please keep in mind that they lied their asses off •relentlessly• about murdering Renee Good.

Please don’t believe a word that comes out of these people’s mouths, and push back on every news outlet that treat their statement with even a drop of credulousness.

Attached: 1 image This is not an isolated incident. Cops lie about what happened all the time. It’s worth reading again (or at all if you never have before, but make sure you’re sitting down) how the Minneapolis police first described the murder of George Floyd, before they knew there was video: 3/

Oh. 💔 My wife and her dad both knew Alex Pretti from the VA Hospital where he was a nurse. “Gentle and such a good listener.”
“They’re always short staffed there [in VA intensive care], and now this….”
Thank you, Alex, for taking care of my father in law in his time of crisis. We remember you. We remember what you did for him, for all of us.
@inthehands oh man, that is heartbreaking. Don't have words.
@inthehands In a stupid, parasocial way, I feel like I know you and your wife a little, and now this awful news is even worse. I am weeping tears of sadness and injustice for him, his family, and yours. This needs to end. 😢💔
@inthehands I'm so sorry, Paul. This is so indescribably horrific.
@inthehands I’m deeply sorry for your loss. For all of his friends and family. He’ll be remembered.
@inthehands He sounds wonderful, what a loss
@inthehands know that we are crying with you
@inthehands oh no.
As if I was not already heartbroken for y'all. It just became personal.
I am so so sorry.
@inthehands I’m so sorry, this is so horrible 💔

@inthehands Thank you for sharing this.

Obviously I don't trust a word of the official narrative, but the official narrative always trashes what the family has to say about the victim, so it's nice (and also heartbreaking) to hear what people who don't have any incentive to misrepresent, whatsoever, have to say about the departed. 😔

@inthehands 🫂❤️‍🩹

@inthehands

I'm so sorry Paul. For everything.

@inthehands
Gentle listeners are what the world needs more of. What a loss to everyone who knew him.

@inthehands

So sorry. All unjustified killings are terrible, but when the points of separation are few, somehow it hurts more.

@inthehands HE DIED FOR THE U.S. OF ASSHOLES
@inthehands aw man, im sorry. 💔
@inthehands They're Nazi murderers, not people. I reject any obligation to treat them compassionately.
6 Elements of Police Spin: An Object Lesson in Copspeak

The linguistic gymnastics needed to report on police violence without calling up images of police violence is a thing of semantic wonder.

FAIR
@inthehands this is like a game of telephone, but fwiw, Aaron Parnas is reporting that the Star Tribune reported “that federal agents attempted to order local police to leave the scene where the man was shot and killed by federal agents earlier this morning. According to the report, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara refused to comply with that demand and instead instructed his officers to remain on site and preserve the scene.” (quoting Parnas)

@inthehands for those looking for more updates, here is a link to live updates from the Minnesota Star Tribune: https://www.startribune.com/ice-raids-minnesota/601546426

(note: I’m not in or from MN, and have no idea if the Star Tribune is standing against or has bowed to fascism, as other outlets have, or how their stance (if they have one) may influence their reporting. Always be a critical thinker and reader.)

Live: Arrests at Whipple after tense protest, somber scene at Good memorial

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was struck in the head and a vehicle damaged. A memorial for Renee Good was held this afternoon at Powderhorn Park.

@inthehands another video from a different angle has emerged, which Aaron Parnas says he has confirmed is from the “woman in pink” (she can be seen in the original video). I share this update because it’s been reported and people are worried that she has been detained by ICE who would likely also destroy her video. I don’t know her status, but the video appears to be available to see. I’m not going to link to it. It’s horrible. I hope she is okay.
Video contradicts Trump’s claim man killed in Minneapolis was a ‘gunman’

Video evidence reviewed by Guardian shows Alex Pretti, killed by agents in Minneapolis, held a phone, not a gun

The Guardian
@inthehands Someone in one of my groups reported seeing 7-8 national guard vehicles on 62.
@inthehands So by tonight there could be civil war. 😬😔

@inthehands From the press conference a bit ago on cspan, General Mankey made it sound like the national guard were being called in to assist the Hennepin County Sheriff in, among other things, protecting the Whipple building, and are mobilizing additional national guard at this time.

They also confirm feds abandoned the scene to local law enforcement who in turn abandoned it to protestors.

@inthehands

Decentralized.

Leaderless.

Yes!

@KrajciTom @inthehands

They can deal with 100,00 people in one place. They can't deal with 100,000 people in 1,000 places.

@inthehands

Women's March (and probably others) are calling on all of us to go outside (with a candle) at 7:00 pm Central Time (UTC-6) [and I would add, or as close as you can] to #SupportMinneapolis. Take photos, share on social media. Let's grow our resistance. #IceOut #NoIce #ReneeGood #AlexPretti #ShutDownIce

That's about 45 minutes from when I'm making this post.

@inthehands We chose to go forward w/ my kiddo's planned birthday overnight tonight so I'm home instead of at the neighborhood gathering, but I just did a 10 minute candle vigil out front for Alex. And for our state, and our country - the world. It's actually a beautiful night and I'm glad I did it.
