@RYStorm IN the 80th, there was this movie: Its in the water

:)

@RYStorm One of my old clients referred to my colleague and me, who accompanied the installation of their cabling with a constant darkly surreal narrative commentary on our work, as "the twisted pair".
@RYStorm The two top cables look like support for Ukraine.

@RYStorm Can we divert some of that to the US please?

Every little bit helps :)

@RYStorm I think you'll find that those are broadband, electricity, green tea, sriracha, mayonnaise, 3D printer feedstock, and hot chocolate.

Far-right extremists will now refuse to use fiber because it is too woke and demand that dialup is restored just for them.

@RYStorm

@hallunke23 They're in for an unpleasant surprise.

Phone lines in my country have different colours. And on top of that, these days, phone lines usually have just two wired contacts, not 4 or 6.

@wesdym

@hallunke23 'Regular' phones are DC, and only require two leads. But phone cables have had more that for decades, for various purposes. Colours vary by intended application, and according to prevailing standards as they apply. But some are quite colourful.

The 4-lead example shown (most common in the US) is either for 2 phone lines (2 leads each), or 1 line with extra features that require 1 or more extra leads.

@hallunke23 Older lines you may find are often 'POTS' type, or 'twisted pairs', and are just two heavy insulated leads braided together. But the wiring blocks they use still often have four lugs, just in case.
@wesdym @hallunke23
In many countries, the standard POTS local loop install was 4 wires (2 pairs) to each premises, from the nearest cabinet. That allowed for redundancy in case of damage or poor performance. And if both pairs worked, it allowed for a second line from the exchange.
@RYStorm We were told to get more fiber, so.
@RYStorm It can never be to much 🌈
@RYStorm I thought those plastic drinking straws got banned
@RYStorm meanwhile Munich:
