Don't the major book publishers realize that each court injunction and seizure incentivizes book pirates to distribute books using more sophisticated file sharing technologies that are resistant to censorship and surveillance?

@cathill Unfortunately, this isn't a technical problem. It's a political one. They won't outcompete you. They'll just suppress you. Even naming it piracy, after a crime that attracted the capital sentence in the past, is an act of political subterfuge. They'll eventually make programming without prior authorization illegal. We're already half way there with attacks on general purpose computing. We need to respond in kind. Expose and dethrone the greedy despots behind these.
@goku12 Imagine a dystopian future where only state-licensed programmers are able to write approved programs for general purpose computers. The restrictions will be imposed in the name of computer security and combating cybercrime.
@cathill Yeah. And it's already on the way. Apple requires you to pay an annual 'developer fee' and a 30% cut of your profits. Google tried to implement developer registration for all android apps, but stepped back due to public outcry. It's already illegal to reprogram many systems like cars and agro machinery in the name of 'circumvention of content protection' under DMCA. They may temporarily step back, but they won't stop. Eventually they will lobby to outlaw it and then start gaslighting.
