I always wanted to go to a #VCF!

As someone in Montreal I’m so happy to see #VCFMontreal!

As someone who takes transit, I also expected it to be in Montreal proper.. 😭

(It’s ~1h drive away, or 2h+ transit, at the Royal Military College in Saint-Jean)

@pierrenick Ooh that’s not too far from me. Got a link?

@g

Yes!

This weekend!
(January 24-25 2026)

VCF Montreal – Vintage Computer Federation

@g It’s so close to me globally, yet far 😭

I don’t think I’ll go, bit of a deal breaker 😭

I had hoped #VCFMontreal could’ve happened in one of Montreal’s 6 universities (!)

@pierrenick I don’t know how it compares to universities, but the #VCFMontreal cafeteria has really good food at the military college, and it’s in the same building as the exhibition hall.

@AGMS00 Yeah, the map looked more like VCF East for that! And the RMC Saint-Jean is a university too. I’ve been to lots of multi-day events in urban universities in Montreal itself.

I’ll have to look up how it went! Hope it comes back. Even if at the RMC Saint-Jean!

@pierrenick I had a good time at #VCFMontreal. Lots of chats, interesting talks and I even got to ask CuriousMarc (YouTuber restoring Apollo computing and digital radio equipment) a NASA atomic clock question (they used the same HP clocks he is working on, for measuring Doppler speed changes in the radio signal from the space craft). But for me, mostly #NabuPC stories and history and meeting people.
@AGMS00 Ohh awesome. When I saw the theme of #VCFMontreal this year was ā€œCanadian Computingā€, I immediately thought #NabuPC!
@pierrenick Oh wow that is way sooner than I expected. Not sure if I will be able to make it either... hopefully they have decent attendance and next year can redo it more centrally.
@g That’s what I’m hoping! I know organizing is a hell if a task! And maybe they need lots if parking? But I’m curious about the choice of venue.
@pierrenick Having helped with a few conferences... pretty often someone offers a free or almost free location that works and it's very difficult to do better than that for any reasonable amount of money :/
@g Yeah same and that’s totally what I’m thinking it is. Still grateful for the organization work and how close I am to one! I hope it sticks around!
